Yep, I wanted a little catfish for a weekend fry and stretch a couple trotlines in my pond (5+ acres) and for Friday/Saturday night catch 12 channels, 3-11lbs along with 27 TURTLES!! I reckon I've been a little relaxed when it comes to the 22 treatment of them. Hmmm, maybe I should get into the selling of them for the commercial trade? Naw, too much trouble and it's way too much fun watching their little heads come off!!

Guess what my plans are for this weekend?

My wife's grandparents had a 10 acre pond near Crowell. It was overrun with turtles. I would throw out dry dogfood and sit up in a tree with my scoped .22 and declare war on them.

It's interesting but a lot of folks say turtles don't hurt and actually help a pond...but I'm sure not one of them. They eat fish. They will destroy a fish nest and eat all they can. They will eat the heck out of artificial food, expensive stuff.

A few turtles are ok, but they have to be "managed" or the numbers will get out of control and the effects on your pond negative.

I'm working on them...I usually get them accustomed to seeing me on the pier after I toss out the fish food, and then they come swarming in. It may take a few days, but looks like the first weekend in May will be "Free to Pond of Turtles" or at least make a darn good stab at it!

The first 27 probably made a pretty good dent in them. How many would you estimate you have?

I gave up shooting them as I could not always get the time to do it. I built a turtle trap and I just empty it every few weeks. Now I have maybe 10 turtles all the time rather than 100-200.
