I see. The tail of the Gar does look bibber and more rounded than a Pike, but it is similar in shape and markings. It looks like a predator - I assume it is.

Julian, I wouldn't say *a* predator, the Alligator Gar, is *the* predator in freshwater. hey, Justin, we have Esox down here too, don't forget those little guys.

Julian, I wouldn't say *a* predator, the Alligator Gar, is *the* predator in freshwater. I always thought alligator gar were mainly scavengers (of weak or newly dead fish), rather than active predators that chase down their prey. How do they feed? Does already-dead fish make up much of their diet?

aligator gar is also the fastest thing in fresh water. There isn't much it can't catch.
If you are sitting in a boat and one cruises past at a high rate of speed you will swear that the German's are launching torpedos at you.

Nah - an Aligator Gar is NOT the fastest thing in fresh water. The fastest thing is ME being chased by an Aligator Gar!
