Headed out there this weekend. Looking to load the freezer with catfish...which is easy. Also would like to catch a redfish/striper or two. Any hints to catching these guys. I'm OK with using lures or live bait. Any help and I'll PM a super catfish hole for loading the boat with two to three pound cats, which like I said can be easy at Braunig. Thanks in advance.

Trolling spoons and rattle traps around the jetty usually works well. Depth is important depending how deep they're hanging. 15 to 20 feet deep is a good starting point.

Can they be easily found with electronics, or are they pretty scattered? I don't know that I could troll at that depth without downriggers...or some heavy splitshots.

Went out to Braunig tonight, fished with my buddy who has been bragging about all the reds he been catching... caught 2 tonight on crawfish on the intake side of the lake near one of the lake pump pipes... 32in and 19in reds, the others in that area he says been about 35+in long!

Here is one of them!

Are they selling crawfish in the lake office? I've caught a couple on small tilapia, shad, and perch, but my biggest, 17.75#, came off a crawfish, as well as a 5.5# the same day. I'm going tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll be able to find some crawfish somewhere.

You can use some of those trolling manual depth devices. Crawfish work well for reds but I've never caught a striper with them. I could be wrong but I don't think stripers eat them. They seem to favor chicken livers for some reason.

It might be luck, but I do much better with crawfish when I pull off thier claws.

There is a van on the other side of the highway that usually sits in the gas station parking lot that sells live bait.

I believe the gas station there on 1604 sells live bait. I also think the Diamond Shamrock on 181 might sell some live bait as well.
On a side note, I've had some luck on a few 4-6 pound stripers floating live perch under a bobber. Something else to throw in the pot.
Nice Red, Will!!!!!
