Instead of a swap I thought it might be fun to challenge you other tiers to bring a kit to work (if that's allowed and safe) to do some tying over lunch break. There is no real tyer vs. tyer aspect to this, I use the word challenge in a most indefinite manner. I just want to start some folks to tying. A kind of virtual tying get-together.

Here is my first, a Gartside Sparrow

Today's is very very simple. I want to see if it's too simple to catch fish consistently and effectively.

They look fishy to me. I want to know what kinds they catch.

So I'm interested, what bit on those? I've been noticing that both the bass and the panfish in my pond are biting my flies that have small hints of that gold metal stuff in them.

Guess who got all the way down to the creek and forgot to bring the new flies with? \:\(

OK, I will give it another go once the blow-out lets up (some rain last night eh?)

Maybe, just maybe, I can play in this one. Guess we might have an old vice around the shop somewhere.

Robin I tie some streamers that look just like that, except I add a bucktail wing on top.

Thank you Kelly

What I am really looking for is more fly pr0n. Our friend to the south, Hook Line & Sinker, has graced this site with many of his deer hair flies. I'm hoping that others will follow suit.

Really, you don't have to tie them at lunch. \:\)

HLS is just amazing. I haven't made a fly in about two weeks now. I have been doing more fishing. I believe I have probably hit close to my limit on species though. Yesterday I caught 11 crappie. None were keepers, one was close. I like to be able to keep a few now and then for eating. It seems people want to push fishing as a hobby, but there seems to be more people fishing than ever. The bad thing is the size of catchable fish has gone down...and the length limits and slots have gone up. I used to think that getting a fishing license and tackle would be offset by food prices by keeping some fish to eat, thus lowering my food bill. But I have spent a fortune on tackle...and besides trout over the winter have hardly caught anything of keeper size. I have caught a lot of fish too. I could of kept the bream, but they are hardly worth the effort to clean. (unless they are BIG bream...and they are good eating) Fishing has become an obsession for me. I love to make flies. I think though that this summer when it is too hot for me to fish, I will make more flies. I have made more than I need already though. I have a ton of flies I have made.....and I could never fish them all...lol.

I think that is a cool fly. I need to make a couple of them. I used one of my crappie candy flies under a bobber today and caught a couple of small crappie. Then I caught about a 9 in crappie on a nice marabou jig I made. Caught several small fish, no keepers.

Robin I picked up some jig hooks from Barlows today and they came with a lead head, is yours lead and just painted or something different. Not that I really care, just curious. I'm gonna make some spiders tonight.
