went out today, fished for 30 min before the storm hit the lake. used shad on a 3 ft leader with a 1 oz weight thrown at rock ledge park. caught a 4 lb large mouth.
two days before caught 8 LMB ranging from 2 - 3 lbs using small perch for bait - one was caught on white spinner bait. heavy top water action during early morning before sunrise.
the white bass seem to be hit or miss at rock ledge over the past week for bank fishing.

I've been going out in the evenings for a little while and picking up a few decent sized LMB's on Rat-L-Trap's.
Always fun to catch a few fish and watch the sun go down.

Has anyone fished Murrell in a while? Do you still have to walk a mile to fish?

Nice BIG mouth!!! Look like lots of fun catching them. Has anyone taken one home to eat? Are them good like the White or Striped Bass? I usually throw them back. Thanks.

Not my favorite by any means.. I'll stick to eating crappie and catfish and release the bass so I can catch them later on when they grow up..

Went out this evening for some bank fishing. I went to a new area and it was covered in rocks. I don't usually have any luck with worms but with all the rocks I decided to give it a try and caught my FIRST bass with a worm. I was using the Grande Bass Mutant and ended up catching 3 with worm and 1 with popper and 2 other worms that got away. One of them I got to see and it was about 2 lbs or so. Here is the 1st one. and here is a 2.5 lber I was shut out Sunday before last all morning. Started throwin Green Grande Mutants, six bass in an hour.... Nice lookin fish! P.S. Took my son to the North side yesterday, ALL bass caught on Worms.

I fished Mcpherson Slough this weekend and had no luck. One small bass. Any ideas of somewhere else to try? I threw spinner, ratteltrap, and even tied on a grande bass rattelsnake.

If fried, the fish has the "exact" taste and texture as a crappie does. It intrigues me when people say they dont prefer bass. My guess is its for fish conservation so people dont go out and keep limits of bass every day, but "IMO" it tastes the exact same. Plus, arnt crappie and bass in the same fish family?

I too prefer crappie over bass. Flatheads and mudcats are in the same "fish family" as you put it, but I guarantee you would not say they tasted the same... Exact same thing with other fresh water fish. I myself like striper quite a bit.

Peronally, I dont eat catfish because they are scavengers (except for flatheads.) If you can catch it off a hooked dingleberry hahah, I wont eat it!
They are fun to catch though, I will give you that!

My point was that your statement about fish tasting the same was flawed, not about if you eat catfish or not. But by the way, do you happen to like crab or lobster? If so then your bias against scavengers just flew right out the window.

I love fried BIG filet of catfish and grilled Lobster tail (the Bigun...not the $10 tail)!!! In addition, I love eating most sea creatures...well except some slime worm or Hagfish that live in the ocean. I also love going to the "Boats" in Louisiana and eat at the buffet, just right before I leave extra money for the Casino to paid their electric bill and pay their employees!

So your saying my taste buds are flawed?
I was giving you an example of how the fish has the same taste and same consistency in my opnion.
This is what WIKI said about what lobsters eat, just for your info:
Lobsters eat mussles, smaller lobsters, fish, crawfish, crabs, sea urchins and some carrion.
AND a comparison of lobsters and catfish?!? come on... one is 3 dollars a pound and the other is 20 a pound
