WEEKEND FUN!!!
So my brother from another mother is coming into town this weekend to go fishing. As long as he hasn't gotten too soft, I would expect us to be out at the Vine all weekend long starting Friday evening, doing some kind of fishing. That is my plan anyways.
So for those of you who will be going out at some point, come look for us, or give me a holler on my cell if you have the number. If you don't, but you plan on coming out and want to meet up, pm me and I'll shoot it to ya so we can coordinate.
We will be all over the southside of the lake, hitting the usual spots, and I plan on trying to sneak down some gated roads or overgrown paths and trying to find some hotspots.
We might also try to find that gator........bwahahaha!

Sounds good to me. Make sure you have a camera to shoot the gator if you come across it.
I should be out a bit. I got a new Revo SX today :]

Sweet. My buddy got one too, so it will be his first time out with it. I've had my Revo out a couple times already. I love that thing. Can cast weightless worms and frogs half a mile.

I have a new job at work and that is supporting our guys that work up at DFW...I don't ever really go up to our DFW building, but I realized on Google Maps how close it is to Lake Grapevine - looks like I'll be fishing every other Thursday night (darn, wish I had known before today, I would have gone out tonight).
I've been looking at some maps online - How is the Southeast side of the lake, near all of those rocks? I hope it's pretty accessible.

Caught this puppy today on the North side! 18" and 3lbs 6oz. Had 5 others and my buddy had 3 all around 1-1.5 lbs. The coves were pretty crowded, I could see 13 other guys fishing in the cove I was in! Newbie question - sometime a bass I land will die due to a hook deep in its throat. They would come out of the water bleeding out the gills and I cut them loose since I couldnt get the hook out immediately. Even after trying to reaerate their gills or whatever you call it, they would flop around a bit and eventually go belly up. It must be from the trauma of thrashin around and bleeding, since I dont keep them out of the water very long. I catch, photo, and release every fish I catch very quickly. Could it be my setup? I use a small octopus hook for a Wacky Worm, thinking it would hook in the mouth better than a long worm hook. Or is the problem a slow hookset so they swallow it before I can set it in their mouth? Should I try harder to get the hook out or cut it loose quickly? Or is it just something that happens and I have to live with it? I'd like to know what I am doing wrong cause I'd like every fish I catch to be released alive.

Great fish man. glad to see things are going well on the north side. Unfortunately, this is just something that happens on occasion. If it's happening a lot you can try setting the hook earlier or changing your setup a bit, you are thinking the right way. IF this happens to me and it is a legal fish, it becomes dinner. Hate taking somethings life and just leaving it to be.

yeah, i moved from 1/0 hooks up to 2/0 and it's made a large difference on these kind of hook problems. txfive0 and i worked on a fish for a while one night and i went out and purchased a nice pair of pliers that i can cut the hook off deep in their mouth, and then pull the shank out as normal and toss both ends into my tackle bag to be thrown away later. these two changes have saved at least one fish, since i changed my process a few weeks ago.

We are planning on rotating some catfishing in sometime this weekend, if you and Mr. P want to join us. We can do the normal spot, or try your OG spot over in the OG...lol. Give me a call if/when you guys want to "hook" it up! By the way, for those coming out, I'll either be in the normal Red 2-door Explorer, or a Blue Chevy Ext Cab Pickup. Holla at a playa if you see him on the lake.....or something like that.
