I see. The tail of the Gar does look bibber and more rounded than a Pike, but it is similar in shape and markings.
It looks like a predator - I assume it is.

Loc: TX, of course.
Julian, I wouldn't say *a* predator, the Alligator Gar, is *the* predator in freshwater.

I always thought alligator gar were mainly scavengers (of weak or newly dead fish), rather than active predators that chase down their prey. How do they feed? Does already-dead fish make up much of their diet?

They'll scavenge for the most part, but they will chase there food as well.

aligator gar is also the fastest thing in fresh water. There isn't much it can't catch.

If you are sitting in a boat and one cruises past at a high rate of speed you will swear that the German's are launching torpedos at you.

Nah - an Aligator Gar is NOT the fastest thing in fresh water.
The fastest thing is ME being chased by an Aligator Gar!

It's "the year of the carp" as I say!

I have a few local swims that I KNOW that carp in them, now I just need to get there!
