I have fished Lake Houston every evening since Saturday and have boated only 23 cats fishing with fresh caught shad. I know there are fish there but am wondering if I am fishing too deep??

I'm fishing over humps in 15'-25'of water each time, should I be fishing shallower this time of year?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would try shallower, around 1 1/2 to 10ft. You may already be doing it but also attach a small float just above your hook, around 6-12" to get your bait off the bottom. Hope this helps.

I'll try that....I'm fishing kinda like a Carolina rig for now, but I guess at those depths (1 1/2' to 10') I could fish a slip cork and keep it of the bottom.
Thanks for the replies.

Actually I peg my small float just to make sure it keeps the bait off the bottom. I've heard and experienced a better catch rate, depending on the bottom your fishing, they sometimes won't dig in the mud to get the bait. Idealy, you would want your weight on the bottom and bait slightly suspended off the bottom. It also helps you from getting hung up so often. A Carolina rig with the float between the swivel and hook is referred to as a Santee Cooper rig. Just my two cents worth. Also I would highly recommend checking out Tiny's website. He's go a welth of information/tips on just about everything you could think of. The guy knows his poop.

Well for starters, being an aggy is certainly not helping you.

i would be fising shallow flats this time of year, or drops close to them. I like to ancor on the flat and toss rods in all directions especially toward the drop.

If you have trees that overhang the lake, fish them. In the lake that I fish, I normally fish about 18" deep about 2' from the shoreline under overhanging trees. The cats normally lay under the trees in the shade eating whatever drop out of the trees. I use worms or cut bait and usually do pretty good.
