I saw a bunch of gars too..do ya'll know how to catch those?
Tie a six inch piece of nylon rope to the end of your line and hang on tight. They are fund to catch.

Cut shad works really well for gar as well, you can fish it on the bottom or suspend it under a float. When they take it, let them run with it for a little while before you set the hook.
Gar are great fighters, strong, and they often jump like tarpon, leaping completely out of the water and even doing somersaults. Awesome.
I lived in San Angelo for about a year, and caught largemouth, white bass, crappie, channel cat, freshwater drum, bluegill, and common carp out of Twin Buttes.
The spillway under Nasworthy is a good spot, too, as are some of the spots on the various branches of the Concho around town.
