Sounds like a friend of mine from Jacksonville, Fl anything you say about Texas or especially the D/FW area. Flordia does it 10 times better or 10 percent bigger.

Well they might not be native, but there are people that do have them as pets and them let them go once they get to big. This has happend in White Rock Lake a few times.

Just like paranas, I have seen some pics of paranas caught in WRL as well

I live in Spring, TX, and took my kayak out for the first time last Saturday. Went to pond nestled back in the woods about 5 minutes from my house. Looked like a great place to do a little bass fishing. Ran into at least 4 or 5 different alligators, and one was as big as my kayak. It was spooky, but I stayed and fished. I guess with a name like Alligator Pond you could expect to run into a few.

there was a news story on a huge gator seen in CHandlers landing a couple years ago, and the one on Lewisville what was found dead tied to a stump.

from what I have heard, the one(s) on hubbard are not in rowlette creek, but one arm over past the 66 bridge. plenty of hogs and nutrias for them to eat. I dont think I will ever see one on hubbard because I am too noisy.

Tawakoni: old timers will talk about walking the flats to find ditches for thier trotlines, and stepping on turtles and alligators.... my understanding is they lay on the bottom until darkness falls. take your spotlight at night and shine it across the flats and look for yellow eyes \:\)

Come on now....if a gator could survive in one of the nastiest ponds in Los Angeles then I wouldnt be suprised to see one in my birdfeeder one day. Aligators are crafty devils...How else could that thing live for years around that many mexicans and not become a wallet with a matching pair of boots, belt and hatband.

Does anyone know who to contact to get access to this "alligator and water moccasin wildlife preserve" in southeast Dallas County on Bilindsay Rd. at Beltline." My son and I would like to take some pictures.

I think the tooth fairy can give you access. Or maybe it was the easter bunny. I can't remember....

earlier in the thread there was talk about alligators being in the Dallas area. Some people say they are here and I was arguing that they are not here. SO the tooth fairy and easter bunny are fictional as well as the alligators. hope I cleared it up

I've never posted on here before because I haven't really had any relevant contribution to any topics I've read, but I gotta add to this thread - my girlfriend and I were on Denton Creek, downstream of Grapevine pretty close to its terminal end with the Trinity, and we saw an alligator that was probably 4 feet long slide off into the water.

I've paddled all over Caddo for years and never ran into a single gator, so you can imagine my surprise to have spooked one on Denton Creek. Its not that hard to wrap my head around, though, because like someone said earlier, people have been known to turn captive alligators loose when they get too big to keep - I figured that was this little guy's story.

DaveG99, I don't know if you're stirring the pot, or just not
as observant as some other anglers, but gators are here. everywhere, and have been for a lot longer than people/progress.
That slaughtered gator from 2 yrs ago on LL was 14 feet long;
That's a pretty old gator when you consider N. Tx. isn't
exactly optimum living conditions. ( gators can grow as much as 1' per year under florida-like conditions.)
keep yer eyes open, you'll see one.......
tight lines

For those that think there are not any alligators in North Texas check out the link below from the TPWD site. There is all kinds of information on the American Alligator at the TPWD site.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_lf_w7000_0162.pdf

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/alligator/history/index.phtml

Just because you have not seen one does not mean they are not there. If I remember correctly there was a baby one caught by a bass fisherman on Grapevine a year or two ago. The pics were posted here on TFF

Ofcourse there are gators in N.Texas! Heck, just about any creek, lake, etc, that's part of the Trinity could have a gator in it. Granted, not a big population, but they "could" ne there. Like another user said, usually when one is spotted it's removed and placed further south. The only time I saw one was at Richland Chambers. Big and dark brown. eek...

My wife used to work in the ft worth nature center and they have been in there forever.Last yr she and her sister saw six footer in EML and alot of people would be shocked to know exactly where.I have also seen a big one on fork.

Most of the time the gaotrs are scared of loud noise and will stay away from people and boats. I am not scared of one until it gets to about 8 feet long. Anything smaller I am pretty confident I could handle if we got into it.

All I can say is that if I see an alligator or a 30 foot snake, I will post a picture of my dirty underwear for proof. I moved here from CT.. this biggest nastiest maneating thing up that way is New York City.
