Boy, ya know that's key too. The more I've fished a jig the more I've caught fish that way. Very often you'll see just the slightest of ripples coming off your line. Those are the subtle bites. SET the Hook!
So often though I'll catch a bass on a jig and couldn't honestly tell ya how or why I knew there was a fish, there just was. You'll just develop a sense. Course on an average fishing day I'll flip or pitch a jig at minimum 50% of my day. If I can't flip or pitch one, I'll throw one out where I'd throw a C-rig and drag it or hop it.
