Well here we go again... Time for our annual trip to the coast and I'm looking for a seaweed report. Seems like every time we head that way the entire sargassum field has moved in in full throttle. We either just missed the best fishing of the year or its coming the day after we leave. Anyway, we're heading for Corpus the 9th of May and we'll be there for 9 days approx. Someone, anyone please tell me the weed will be light with one foot waves. Lie to me if you have to, but I NEED to hear this!!

Put your bait into the wind (based on the position of your pole) so the seaweed slides up the line instead of pulling it...

It still sucks but some of the best fishing is under the thicket.

hahahahaha. biggest waves ive ever seen yesterday half way down mustang island and tons upon tons of SEAWEED. The other night i though i was going to barf it stunk so bad and we're about half a mile from the surf. The water is freakishly clear in packery channel and the surf surrounding but down at baffin bay it looked like the trinity river. I havent been on the beach at PINS. 20-30 mph winds tomorrow. Ive caught a few fish in the bay over the past 2 weeks but it hasnt been anything worth writing home about.

Sorry man but I go down there every year for the Beach to Bay relay marathon, and the starting line is usually not a pretty sight. There is usually about a 10 yard wide wall of sargassum. If they can't clean that up for 5,000 people to run on I doubt they'll clean it up before then. It happens around this time every year. This year the race is on May 17th and it is on the third Saturday of May every year. Hopefully it'll clear up for you. Here is what it looks like now.....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but at least you were warned. Make plans to do some bay fishing. Bob Hall is not a good option, as one of my friend's just went and couldn't get a hardhead to even touch a live shrimp. Fish places such as the JFK Causeway or wade the flats and shallows off of Whitecap. Good luck to ya!

You need to start fishing the weed. There are a lot of fish that hang there. When the weed comes in, the long rods stay in the truck and the small 12lb-15lb sticks come out. Fishing a top water between the mats is fun.

When the weed comes in, it sucks on the beach, but offshore it is great for mahi-mahi, wahoo and tuna. About 20 miles offshore you will find weed lines and a lot of action.
