Alaska is the Disney World for adults!! The fishing is outstanding, so is the hunting and the scenery is just worth the trip!! I went in May of 98 for a week trip of fishing for Halibut and King Salmon and had a blast! Stayed in Soldotna and fished both there and out of Homer with Tim Berg's Alaska Fishing. That was one of my life goals.

I'm ready to go back...

I'm with the guys that say "Tarpon in Alaska???" Don't think so.

Alaska is a beautiful place and there are lots of fish to catch. Kings, silvers, chum/dog, pinks//humpys....all salmon. then there are the Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Dolly Varden, Artic Char, and in some areas Pike.

I went when I was about 14 and have been trying to go back ever since. Fortunately, I will be headed up there in July once again. Mainly fishing for Kings and the native fish (trout, char, dolly varden, and grayling).

If you are mistaken on the 'Tarpon' fishing and it is fishing for Salmon or the native species, don't pass it up!

I don't see a lot of fun in halibut fishing, but they are good to eat!

BTW- Tarpon are a semi-tropical/tropical fish. They like warm waters. Most of the water I fished in Alaska previously was very cold, like 50 degrees or colder! Far from a tropical or semi-tropical region.

No Tarpon in Alaska ... lots of other cool fish though .. salmon (several varieties), BIG halibut, lingcod, etc. My mom & I are heading up there this June for our first trip and we're excited (to say the least!)

I'm hoping for one of those big barndoors that outweighs me!!

Where are you fishing. I have fished a few times in alaska. I prefer either Seward or Sitka. Seward has a great captain that knows where to go for fish and have never had a bad day. In sitka I rented my own boat and had a great time. You will probably gete to get into King salmon if you are going in the early summer and they put up a fight but the Halibut are the best eating fish. Snow white meat. Steve
