I just moved to the Keller area. I am an experienced angler and have fished some of the nearby lakes, but I am not familiar with any of the ponds in the area. Of course I usually fish for bass, so that would be of the most interest to me.

What are some of the best ponds around?

Also, I want to spend time with my wife while fishing. Quantity over quality will keep her attention more. What areas might be good for bream/perch fishing?

Any advice or information is definitely appreciated.

Thank You.

I understand the pond in Bear Creek Park, off of 377, has bass in it. Might give it a try. If you bring some worms, the bluegill should keep you busy. You might also visit the Colleyville Nature Center, off Glade Road between 26 and Precinct Line. The pond with the pier is loaded with bluegill and smallish catfish.

FB - I lived on Park North Lane just off Bear Creek Road for 12 years. I put 5 big channel cats in there one day I had caught at Ray Bob. I also put 3 24-25" redfish in there that were still alive in my boat well when I got back from Waco with them - I doubt they survived any of the winters, though. I also (illegally) put some slot bass in there from Ray Bob.

Problem is most of the ponds on Bear Creek in that area are flow thru so a lot of the fish go downstream....

Don't waste your time at Colleyville Nature Center. It has really gone down hill over the last couple of years in my opinion. It is hit or miss at best.

Send me a PM and I will fill you in on a few of my favorite spots in the Keller area. Maybe you have a few you can share with me as well.

I 2nd GNUTS comment on the Colleyville Nat Ctr. I have fished that place dozens of times and only landed one fish!!

If you do try the Nature Ctr, fish the far west tank. Its the one that has a couple of houses back right up to it.

i have never done to well at the colleyville nature center either. i do most of my fishing in southlake. since every neighborhood in southlake has a pond there are alot of ponds to choose from. If you dont mind trespassing or in private ponds only then there is some really good bass fishing in southlake. there is a pond behind the police station next to the davis 1709 intersection that has done good. pm me if you want to know my aces, but you will have to tell me some good keller, colleyville, grapevine ponds

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this post and to those who have sent me private messages with locations. I have already had some very good fishing trips to some of these locations and look forward to many more at the places I have not yet been able to try.

Keller Municiple Center, off Ruffe Snowe, has sunfish, cats, and i believe bass.

Chisolm Park, in Hurst, has sunfish and cats.

And I dont know exactly where you are, but the Trinity River has nice fish.
Bear Creek in Keller

Bicentinal Park in Southlake

Chesapeake Park in Southlake

Greenbriar Park in Ft Worth

Joe Pool Lake and Eagle Mountain Lake has some nice bass, a little out of the way though.

Hoped it helped, I live in Arlington, pretty close by.

The nature center is very good, during select times of the year. I have posted many pictures on this forum, of 5lb plus bass......mostly on topwater.

Of course, it helps that I live next to it, and can be opportunistic on the weather patterns.

I live in the Keller area and have had many areas where trespassing has been worth it for catching big bass/cats. Some of the places I have great success at are:

Cats:(using dead bluegill on hook and strike indicator)

Bicentennial Park off of 1709 (Southlake Blvd.)

Inside Lakes of Highland Oaks (the neighborhood across from Keller Fire House) neighborhood (the neighborhood across from Keller Fire House) off of Rufe Snow Dr .
(Chain of ponds, use middle pond for cats).
Be careful though, some friends have been ticketed and given community service for trespassing!

Bear Creek Park
Very run down, look for small cats and perch.
But also during winter they conduct kid fish on Sat. morning so for the next week after you can pull some 10-12 in trout out of it but they die off quick.

Bass: (using green soft plastic worms and crankbaits)

Bicentennial Park again

Many of the lakes around here have hosted Bassmaster Series events (the pro fishing shows) and many of the pros pulled out 10-12 pounders
Vital to have a boat to fish these lakes!!!!!!!

Many golf courses have great fishing also like Sky Creek Ranch in Keller and Iron Horse Golf Course in North Richland Hills.

Well thats all if yall need any more info for places around here feel free to contact me

Good luck fishing!!

Here are a few for your consideration:
Arcadia Park / North Fort Worth - Several places along the foot bridges to fish from. Best if you take a bike and travel along the creek.

Spray Park off Trace Ridge and Heritage Trace (take Hawley) / North Fort Worth - You can fish from 75% of the bank and is mowed to the edge.

Capp Smith Park / Watauga - Never had any luck here, but others have posted pics of nice size bass. I have seen a giant Koi in the back part of the lake.

Also, just take a look at Google Maps with the aerial view. As the homes are built, many small stock ponds become open to fishing.

Yes, Arcadia Park does have bass. Mostly in the two pound range. Since it is a creek the fish come and go, which makes it a challenge to find them. It is usually difficult to get to the best spots, so I fish with a short Ugly Stick rod and no more than #6 test mono line. I use rooster tails and 6' Culprit Red Shad worms. I have caught them in places that I could not imagine there being a fish sitting. There are some very deep holes, so it is best to walk the creek, wear jeans and be on the look out for our "fanged" friends in the warm/hot months. Sometimes you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a snake.

That pond is loaded with Bass and Crappie. But there is another that I got the keys too on the Gateway Church property that will blow your mind away. Atleast it use too. This pond use produce some very nice fish. Haven't been in awhile but bad to the bone in the spring or summer!

Toad, I think I know the pond your talking about. It is about 1.5 to 2 acres not visible from a road. Also has some trees that have fallen in. I fished it a few times and caught some pretty nice bass 3-4 pound range from their. The fear of being caught kept me from fishing it a lot. Toad if you want some company hit me up. It would be fun to fish that pond with out the fear of the cops being called.

Yes...I have caught several on artificial and rooster tails. Most have come from the south end and along the east bank. The east bank has more laydown cover and stumps. When it gets warmer, grassy moss will develop extending out three to four feet with good places for the bass to hide. Just flip it in those and hold on. In late October of last year, I pulled 15 during a two day span.

the southside hit the parks and around the boat ramps around the rocks. Small crankbaits, spinner bait, flukes and a C rig ...watermelon red flake is my goto bait (with a little spike it on the tail) you can catch a lot of fish and sometimes even get a nice 5+ LBer there. What I did was buy a map and just drive around and hit all the parks and try them out.

I'd be more interested in the carp since I'm not gonna eat anything out of that pond anyway lol.

There's also at least one HUGE Alligator gar in there. Or at least there is if it's survived the last few years.

A friend of mine used to manage the aquariums there, and she told me that one day, a bowfisher brought in a big alligator gar that he'd shot in the tail. It was still alive, and he asked if they wanted it.

They took it in, but said they had to nurse it back to health with all sorts of antibiotics first, and eventually transferred it to the pond.

So after reading this my curiosity spiked since I live close to all these ponds nad never really fished them. I hit Capp Smith off 377 and Starnes for a few hours this afternoon and pulled in 2 small LMB using a zoom watermelon red worm on a shakey head.

Go to the secondary pond farthest from starnes and fish the cat tails from the east bank. Even though its clear water I had the best luck fishing it slow and letting it soak. Good luck to ya'll!

Lots of useful information here! Thanks fellas, it sucks not having a bass boat...but at least fishing ponds takes the edge off until I can get into one!

Cabelas lets you fish their property even without a fishing license all you need to do is sign a waiver, its all catch and release though I usually take little ones there to hit the catfish cause at that point its catching not just fishing lol and it gets um hooked

Its not about how deep you can fish but by how you wiggle your worm

I've fished Capp Smith. Nothing. There's lots of turtles. My neighbor says his sons used to catch fish out there- 12 or so years ago.

what about the Fort Worth area?

the body of water by Target and Costco is always being fished.

Is there anywhere else to catch some bass in the Cityview area. Seriously, The fishing in this area is limited.

Iron horse golf course has 7-8 pounders. Many 2-4's. Great ponds.

Hi, I am new in the area but I get up early and go to Starbucks then right when the sun comes I'll try a pond or two for an hour or so but I just tried this pond at Keller Pkwy and Anita/Bourland behind RaceTrac gas station and across from Funky Baja's Cantina. Behind the gas station its little drainage ditch that leads to spillway. Well, i just stood on tat spillway for a couple hours I got two 2 1/2 lb catfish and 12 2-4 lb bass. Didn't see no signs but my old lady called and I had to go... Looks like it's on. -Penskes

Oh yeah across the street there's another pond but the bass bite is much slower got three cats and one bass in few hours there i.e. @ Bourland/Keller Pkwy

Chisholm park has a decent population of common carp in it. 20-25 lb range is the upper limit. But I catch them while cat fishing there. They will bite on cut hot dogs and night crawlers on a circle hook. Its over in hurst.

The Bedford boys ranch just had a 100% renovation completed on its pond. Structure added, dredged, all fish and aquatic life taken out of it. They recently restocked it with LMB fingering (500 or so I believe). With plans to stock crappie, channel cats, perch, bluegills, and carp. Ive also head the idea being tossed around to stock some crawfish as well.

Give it a year or 2 and give it a shot. Dont think youll be disappointed.

There are still large red crawdads in the Boys Ranch pond, they were in there way back in the 70s. Saw lots of evidence this summer (large claws and body parts) along the creek that the night herons had caught. Guess they survived the renovation and should be good forage for the bass going forward. Now if we could just get them to keep the what used to be 500+ duck population down it will not turn into a filthy sludge pond again.

HOA's have killed off some really good ponds in the Mid-cities, SouthLake, Colleyville and Keller areas. Looking for new spots...
