What's so special about "hand poured" baits other than that they are poured by hand? I'm looking at some online and trying to decide if they're worth they hype. Does the performance of a hand pour justify the extra price?

Usually the special color variations you can get make some difference.

I dont know about more expensive, but I know of a product line of hand pours here in the D/FW metro area that is just great stuff. it floats and the color combos are in one word sweet

Not to mention that "they" are very copetitively priced.

Basically you can dial in any color, any flake color, any size flake, make baits that are no longer in production, dial in how soft or hard that you want it. You can also make a crude prototype or just draw one on a piece of paper and a good pourer can make that bait for you design wise. Price is relative to the bait, size, style and quantity. A 6 inch worm basically costs 4 cents each to make if you pour your own. Hope this helps.

by the way these local d/fw hand pours do not catch fish at falcon, ray roberts, lewisville, grapevine, monticello or fork. this is just an fyi....

Actually $3 is a VERY good price for that bait.

My bad... I meant 3.25 each, plus shipping, comes to 4.75 each for one pack...

I just wonder if they're worth it. It broke my heart (and my budget) to buy some LFT magic shads at 1.75 each... just trying to determine if the "good" stuff is really that good. I don't have thousands on the line each tournament... if I did, it would be easier to justify the expense, IMO.

May buy some anyway, just need you guys to talk me into it

three pack for 9.75, plus 4.60 shipping from jig monster via ebay. maverick doesn't seem to sell direct. tackle warehouse has them for the same price, but shipping is more. no hooks included. they recommend a 6/0 falcon, or any 6/0 ewg with a pinch on weight.

I agree with Carl, that is a good price for that bait. I may have to order some. For a cheaper swimbait try the storms. You can get a whole pack of them for like $4.

I've got a few of the yum sweet cheeks and some tsunami shad...
the ones I have are all weighted quite a bit. Looking for something to swim over grass flats in 2 ft of water or less. Something with swimbait action in the weightless fluke depth range, if that makes sense.

I know it is a bump up in price but I would look at the mission fish baits...they come pre rigged with weight and include hooks. I think carl at anglers lodge sells them for around $11 each...BUT they do last a LOT longer than the tube type swimbaits as far as number of fish caught on one bait. Also, just use a lighter and melt them back together and keep fishing. They have 4,5,6,and 7". I fish them a lot over bushes and grass. I have one now I know is going on 50-60 fish and has been repaired 10+ times.

I have bought from Jim at http://www.ghostbaits.com. His paddletails are of good quality and he has some different colors you don't see anywhere. He also has some Swim Babe type lures I want to try out. I agree with the previous post. You can get some unique colors on custom pours for some popular style baits for around the same price. He will do custom orders as well.

11 $ each for 50 fish (22 cents each)... would have to catch 17 fish on one plastic bait at 3.75 each... I like your math better, JR. seems much more plausible

Yeah...i did the math as well after buying many brands...Got better results with the mission fish and saved some money as well. Also, they run better in the water without having to mess with the rigging the hook just perfect, etc. Just get you one of those red BBQ pit lighters and leave in your boat to melt and repair the baits.

The soft plastic glue that 3:16 just came out with has been working wonders on my swimbaits. It has repaired every single swimbait that I had put in a box to be thrown away and saved me a ton of money, even though I pour my own swimbaits etc. . It is well worth the investment IMO at $7.25. Works better tham Mend It, which I had to see to believe. You can also make your own creations on the spot by gluing two pieces together. It saved my keester in february when it repaired the only Mission Fish I had in a particular color that was the only thing working at the time. It is the same size as a fingernail polish bottle. Have used mine for 3 months now quite extensively and still have half the bottle left. I also have a contact in Arizona that makes those type of swimbaits for $2.00 each. PM me if you want his info. I will also be carrying them here in my store as the sample bag of all his colors are pretty much toast after testing them last week. I caught quite a few fish on them. That glue saved the day then too.

have you tried the berkley hollow bellys or the poorboys swmbaits?
if your fishing in shallow water then use them with a 1/16 oz weighted 6/0 hook. they look great coming through the water
