I have two ambassador 5000 reels that I have used for years. They have both caught their fair share of fish. Lately, I have had a problem with the line guide hanging up on one side of the reel. If you dont watch it, you'll have a really uneven spool of line. Somethin tells me this is an easy fix but I can't figure the damn thing out. I'd hate to get rid of these reels. Please help
There is a tackle store in Shreveport La. named Bacon's that has all the parts for Ambassador reels . Don't know number but they have the parts to fix it .
If you look ubder the line guide there is a slot screw head, remove it abd replace the paul(sp)I know they have them at Academy. That should fix the problem, be sure and put a drop of oil in there.

it could also be the level wind gear. The part that has all the criss cross grooves cut in it. The end cross points tend to get rounded down after a lot of use and not allow the guide to traverse back across.
If you are in the Dallas area, Southwest Parts should be able to get what you need to fix it.

You might get away with just the pawl, or you might have to replace both the pawl and worm gear. Either way, you can do it yourself. Pawl replacement is described above. To do the worm gear, take out the pawl, then remove the left (non-handle side) side plate. There's a swing away style clip that holds the worm gear in. Swing it out, then the gear pulls out. Academy does carry the parts if they have them in stock. Pawl will run 3 or 4 dollars, worm gear may run 8 or so. Maybe cheaper at soutwest parts?
