Here are a few RECENT pics of some of the variety of fish caught by me and my buddy Jose, he of the camera phone. Channel Cat,Caught Saturday, April 5, 08, at Bachman Lake, on a Rainbow Trout colored Rooster Tail. Black Bass, caught Sat Apr 5, 08 Bachman Lake Levee fronting Denton Drive, on a 3 inch white curly tail grub,by Jose Another Bachman Lake Black, caught along the Denton Drive Levee,Sat, Apr 05, 08 also on a white 3 inch curly tail grub, one eighth oz jig head. Blue Cat, Hybrid Striper, and Magnum Sandie, from the Fabulous Elm Fork, all caught on a chartreuse 3 inch curly tail grub, on a one eighth oz jig head, Spring Break, 08. Hybrid was released after the photo op, he was only 17 inches long! Sandie and the blue were delicious! A Beautiful, if small,Kentucky Spotted Bass, Bachman Creek, BELOW THE LAKE AND BELOW the Harry Hines Bridge, caught by Jose on what looks like a blue grub or worm, Spring Break, 08 With gas getting to the prices its going, Thank God for great fishing holes w/in minutes of my house! On March 29, Jose and i took my boat down to the "Ought to be Legendary Cow Creek" down in Waxahachie. We put 13 keeper sandbass on the stringer, and we added 6 more that Marc and Jigs4Life donated to us. Sorry for the pic quality, but it was after dark when pic was taken, with only a cell phone camera(Jose's), but you get the idea, these were some pretty good sized sandies. The fish were all caught between 4 pm and dark but we didn't take the pics until we got back to the boat drop in pt after it got dark. Rudy

Jose and I hit a small urban lake today,Helmet Lake in Irving, about 3 blocks from Texas Stadium, across the street from the Dr Pepper Bottling Co. Fished it from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM and it did NOT disappoint! NO RAIN AT ALL, BY THE WAY, NOT A DROP!! Black bass, crappie and a bluegill were the order of the day, and the 1/6 th oz Rooster Tail, one Rainbow Trout, one Pearly White, were the winning tickets today! 9 black bass, 2 crappie, and one bluegill, all released to fight another day! biggest bass was near 2.5 lbs, the rest smaller but still oh so much fun on ultralight gear! Helmet Lake,Irving, Tx. Small, clear water, and LOADED with fish! Healthy, colorful, Helmet Lake LMB, not overly large, but feisty! One of the larger Helmet Lake MLB's of the day, beautiful coloration, healthy fish! Another feisty Helmet Lake LMB, caught three on three casts, all from the same spot, at one pt. Oh yes, Helmet Lake does indeed have crappie in it! Not bad for just an hour's worth of jacking around! Rudy

Snagged a HUGE one in the back with the roostertail, and saw one with the big bugle lips bulging out of the water on Wednesday.

Caught a NICE 14 inch crappie last night after work on a white one sixth oz rooster tail. Also caught a LMB that might have gone 6 inches if i pinched him hard enough! Another TFF'er found some bedding black bass in the double digit pound range. They were not interested in anything he threw at em, and he's pretty good at getting bedding bass to strike after he intimidates the heck out of them!
I only fished for about 30 minutes, between 7:45 and 8:15 PM, as it got too dark to fish, and the wife called and said she was holding dinner for me!
We were fishing at Helmet Lake, by the way.

My buddy and co worker Jose hit a gravel pit i told him about in the I-30/Walton Walker area, and hit some bass and a small crappie on Wednesday afternoon! Not a bad trip, if the pics are any indication: He caught them on jigs, the same type we used Tuesday night to slaughter the bull bluegills! Also, i decided to include a couple of pics of a gorgeous stretch of water that last summer produced some excellent bass for TFF'er Buddy Lee 147, when i took him with me. The creek in question is Red Oak Creek! This same creek produced a prodigous stringer of FAT HEALTHY creek raised Channel Cats for Jose and I last summer, majority of them caught on jig/bobber! Clear rushing stream, and if you notice in the background of one of the pictures,is a sheer limestone wall/bluff the creek has carved over God knows how many years! It's a beautiful stretch of North Texas water, a meer 35 minutes south/southeast of Downtown Dallas! I'm telling ya guys with the prices of gas going where they are, it behooves ya to go out and find these "backyard" honey holes! Rudy

Hit Beautiful Red Oak Creek in Rockett, Tx, just upstream from the miniature horse farm today. BTW, the herd of Zebras on the farm just keeps getting bigger! Man, saw a ton of em today. Same goes for the Camels! They were out in force along the fence leading down into the little valley carved by beautiful, clear water Red Oak Creek.
Jose and I decided to hit the creek for the FIRST time this year, thinking all the rains would have re-stocked some of the honey holes, and basically re-positioned the fish in the creek.
The small fish did not disappoint! We literally lost track of how many small bluegill, green sunfish, and pumpkinseeds we caught today! They hit jigs, live nightcrawlers, and, DRUM ROLL, PLEASE: Rooster Tails! Every cast for long stretches at a time would produce a fish!
We saw bass, lots of bass, some very impressive sized bass, but could not pay one to hit our hooks! BASS CAN BE SO SNOOTY!!!!!
We also saw something that Starless Dragon could probably ID in a millisecond, but we threw out all kinds of guesses: It is HUGE, black, white, orange, golden, mottled, and has the bugle mouth of a carp, along with the dorsal fin of a carp! Is that what they call a Koi(y)? It looks like those multicolored fish you see swimming in the lilly pads at Benihanas! The bigger bass in that particular pool in the creek took a shine to this immigrant, and followed it around like he was conducting class or something!
Oh yeah, we also took some chicken liver, for the hefty, and tasty, clear water run channel cats this creek is semi-famous for, and the scorecard on those read: (1) 24 inch channel, hard to guess weight, felt heavy, thick bodied, and as healthy looking as a catfish is allowed to get! (1) legal but much smaller(we eyeball estimated it in the 14-15 inch range), and one "Queen Mother" Channel, that stripped line, made massive runs, tried to bury itself in the bottom of the pool it was hooked in, then finally broke off! That one alone was worth the price of admission!
Man that water was rushing, so clear in stretches it looked like you were viewing fish through a window rather than through water; emerald green deep water pools, where you had to adjust your eyes for a few seconds, then you could clearly see fish down in there too!
That is just one gorgeous stretch of water! Love it!
Oh, and the Exxon Station in Rockett has a deli that makes hamburgers the way God Intended! The best $1.99 hamburger with ALL the trimmings, including the jalapenos, I have had in ages!
Film at 11!

Hit Beautiful Red Oak Creek in Rockett, Tx, just upstream from the miniature horse farm. (from post on 4/29/08) only now with pics!: Those are sheer limestone bluffs in the background, and that is very clear water, though it may not look it in these pics! Jose was trying to fill his parents' request that he bring them two good eating sized catfish. Well, REQUEST FULLFILLED!: Here's a nice channel, fat and healthy, from that pretty, rushing clear water: And, another healthy Red Oak Creek specimen: Just to prove that you don't have to go far from home to get good fish, Today he went to Bachman Creek, off Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas, and GOT ANOTHER NICE CAT, this time a healthy, fat blue!: Red Oak Creek is 35 minutes south and east of Dallas, 6 miles NE of Waxahachie, and Bachman Creek is here in the heart of the city, on Harry Hines Blvd. With gas prices soaring, this kind of fishing can sure put a major saver on your wallet, and still provide some quality fishing! Just a thought, now GO FIND YOUR OWN! Rudy
