I say the best boat is the one you can afford.

Just like running a company. Keep your overhead down and enjoy the ride, KEEP ALL that care about happy as often as you can.

You are more likley to fill the live wells.

The new will wear off the payments will still come.

Look around, find older boat get your questions out there to this forum. There are some outstanding guys and girls that can bail you out.

Later, Call me I can help much as I can.

I have heard very good things about Legend boats. I bought a Ranger because it suited me and my family. \:\)

Whatever you like, and can sell later. In my case it was Skeeter. Put one in the newspaper for sale and it'll be gone by the end of the week around here. In other areas...it's something else. But the fishermen around here say " If it aint a Skeeter...it aint $h!t" BTW, that was said by a former Ranger owner... \:\)

We all know that there are lots of good quality bass boats out there...not just one or two. I just opted to go with the inventor of the so called bass boat...and that's Skeeter..or so they say. Besides, my family was a Yamaha bike dealer and now that they own Skeeter, I'm even more partial to them. Yamaha is a well run company and always has been.

But there is no "best" boat these days...it's all relative.

okay, okay...I'll say it..lol

give me 2 or 3 foot rollers and a 21XRD Bullet with 300XS and i'll smoke all of ya!!! and never get one drop of water on me.

don't believe me, make an appointment and pay the gas, and i'll show ya!!

now, that said, the Bullet DOES NOT fish as good as a ranger or triton, because they are a bit lighter and the wind will blow them around a bit more.

next choice is a BassCat, or Legend. Very good boats too.

JMHO!!

One that has a good dealer close by you. I love my '07 Ranger but can't find a dealer close to me who seems to care a bit about doing any warranty or other work on it.

I loves my Rangers....Been the proud owner of one since 1987...Er...make that two....I'd still have the first one if it hadn't burned up in a boat shed fire...I'm gonna try to see my way clear to buy my last bass boat in 2010...By then I should be able to find a nice used Z520 at a decent price....

-My Opinion-
I think You should Ride and Fish out of any Boat your thinking about buying. All of them have their Own Problems. These are the Ones that I have a little Input on

Bullet- 21xd Fast, but Fishes like a JonBoat- horrible Livewell System, cant Fish in the Wind without Bilge Pumps on, Storage Boxes are a Joke, if proper pain medication taken before hand- it will run in rough water- Wins most of the Boat Races

Skeeter- well its a Skeeter

Ranger- heavy, expensive, and around here Service is a Joke- but Fishes good, resale value good, solid

Champion- dry Ride, but old Ones were the best- new Ones I feel are just not as solid as the old 202, 203's. Not sure if their finished out as well, might be going away from Champion on next purchase

Nitro- now come on

Basscat- solid Boat, great with Customer relations, Fishes good as the Rest, but they dont make a anything over 20', great local service

Triton- Im not buying One, even if it was a buy 1 get 2 free

Legend- dont know that much about it, but it looks like a
Champion - they just need to calm down on the Paint Jobs

Gambler- well after Fishing out of a 2200 for the last 2 months, I have come to the Conclusion that its set up for People in the Retirement Home- Rod Boxes wont hold a Rod over 7', Rides descent, if Your a Seal

I appreciate the thread. I am currently looking for another boat. Owned two different Champions and want to hear what others say about the other brands. I like the layout of the Triton but folks are telling me the boat has a chine walking problem. Skeeter's have a good layout but I still remember the skeeter issues of the 90's. Road in some Rangers and my kidneys shut down everytime I mention the name. But I haven't road a new one and I like the name.

Thirsty, any Vee-Pad hull will chine walk if you get it going fast enough. So if you carry that to the logical conclusion, Tritons run faster than most, hence they chine walk more. Most bassboat drivers are not accustomed to dealing with chinewalk. Ask Steve if his Bullet will chinewalk. Does it have a chinewalk problem? No, it has a DRIVER....

well said Bass Art.

mine doesn't chine walk, unless i let it.

same with tritons. most tritons,if chine walking, have a setup problem. And, a driver problem. You just gotta learn to handle the boat.

I found a problem with my boat this morning. I'm only 1" above pad. I need to come up another 1/2" to unleash this beast!!

The higher the engine, the less trim needed, therefore less chine walking!

Yes, I also own a Ranger too and have owned nothing but Rangers for 18 years, until last year.

Reasons - You will find 101 of them right here: http://www.allisonboats.com/allison_firsts.php

Reality, what any of us say should not make your decision. What you personally try, ride, and drive should be your determining factor. The next factor is how many folks are going to be fishing with you in your boat at any given time? Final factor, what type of fish are going for?

My .02...

Tritons don't have a chine walking problem. The problem is most people can't drive a performance hull. The chine walking is the side effect of not being able to control the boat.

WHile a Triton requires more skill to drive, it also has a higher than average performance. I'm on my 3rd Triton now and love it. It is in my opinion one of the top rough water and handling boats on the market today.

You've got a good point. Just get out of the house & out on the water. I've got a 20 year old Skeeter Starfire with a 30 year old Evinrude 150 pushing it. Not the cleanest or nicest around. But it gets me there & I don't have a payment each month either. So I'm happy with what I have...
