Small hammerhead about 2' long. When I came by the 90th street pier there were only about 4 people on the pier that I could see. I think somebody was pulling your leg.

Most of the fish were being caught early morning. I managed to do o.k. Tuesday. I was about midway down the pier on the west side. That area seems a more productive during the afternoon. The shallows were apparently good earlier in the day and, in the evening, but good luck getting a spot there!

Hey, bobtx, hope you didnt take my post wrong. I was stating that the report from Cory didnt match what I saw. I guess I'm too skeptical of reports coming from piers. If they tell you the fish aint biting then no one would go. If they tell you everyone is killing 'em then people have a tendency to go down there.

Gave the Galveston fishing pier a try today from 11 am to 6pm. The water was rough and the surf was actually big enough to surf on. I ended up with 4 whiting, two sting rays and a 4 pound gaff top. I also got a 2 foot bonnet head shark. No drum, sheepshead or reds while I was there, but two people caught 5 lb gafftop. There were hard heads everywhere! I went through two lbs of shrimp as the slimy fish followed me around the pier! Bobtx you didn't miss much maybe fishing will improve next week.

I also gave it a try at Galveston Pier Friday night/Saturday Morning. No luck at all. Only a few small Cats and 1 small hammerhead. I also tried SeaWolf Park Saturday night no luck there either. I did see a guy pull a nice keeper drum in the whole 8 hours I was there fishing. I wonder what happend this weekend? Any1 have any clues why they weren't bitting like everyone said they would be?

The conditions are Looking Good.

What's going on there on the beach? Anybody?

The Chronicle said 79 degrees for water temp. Is that so?
Must be a Typo.

Any specks yet??

I heard from a source that the Macks and Gafftops are starting to show as well as those pesky "Shititas" (Hardheads).

Specks should be there soon.

Good luck to all!

The Bonnet head I caught last week turned out great, on the grill. No funny taste at all. I am going offshore Sunday, but want to give the Galveston fishing pier a try monday am.

Sat 5 th April Galveston Fishing Pier reports lots of keeper reds, keeper drums being caught. Aslo lots of whiting and gafttops. Bonnetheads and stingrays moving in close to shore. Some pompino's and spanish macs but no specks. Water is in very good shape and low winds should make excellant fishing along with good tidal movement. Hopefully I will have some help hired soon so I can go fishing .

4/08/08 Galveston Fishing Pier . Ray reports keeper drums and keeper gaftops being caught along with a few keeper reds and whiting . The gafttop tourney leader weighs in at 7 lbs . First place will get $500.00 2Nd $300.00 3rd $200.00 4th $100.00 5th $50.00 . Plenty of time for everone to get down there and catch a 8-9 lb gafttop and claim one of those prizes . You are automatically entered when you buy am admission ticket. PS small whiting heads is a hot bait for large gafttops . I won tourney 2 twice with this bait .

All these good fishing reports from the pier is driving me insane. Want to go fishing up there so bad, but it will be a 5 hour drive up there. Weekend is not enough time to fish. I am taking a week vacation in June and going up there to fish the whole week.
Ya'll save me some fish now, you hear.

I went to the Galveston fishing pier, on Saturday, at 3 am. I paid the full ticket price and was told at 6 am that I needed to purchase a new ticket or leave. I caught some gafftop and a couple of whitings, but it was a short trip. I think I will be fishing elsewhere for a while.

I fished the 61st street pier today, water was green and slightly sandy. I managed 10 decent sized whiting a several gafftops. I did manage to lose 2 sets of tackle. on all the old line on the pier pilings. One guy caught a huge cow nosed stingray. My grudge against the Galveston fishing pier only lasted 2 days. I thinking about Sat depending, on the weather.
