At I35 and Highland Village Rd. (Just S. of the bridge over Lake Lewisville) is a small lake, about 10 acres or so. It has been there for many years and looks quite fishy. Copperas Branch lake. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=I....01236&t=h&z=16

It's a park and is open to the public. I think it would be fun to fish it on a Sunday afternoon soon as a group. Open to all TFF or anyone else, from Tubes, Water wagons, bank walkers, whatever. No big boats are allowed. I'm sure we could get some small prizes donated. Would be fun and a good place to bring your kids if you want. (also a good way to find out if it's a good spot to fish)

What do you think?

I have driven over that area many times and just assumed it was part of Lake Lewisville - never realized they were not connected.

Sounds like fun - just set a date and we will see if can work it out!

KD and another TFFer fished it on at least one occasion. They caught some decent bass, as I recall.

I've fished it a few times, both with a bassbuster and from a tube. It's got some good fish in it. Biggest I caught there was a bonafide 4 lb'er.

I tried it on a tough day and could not get a bite. I've heard it has some fish and would be up for giving it another shot. Sounds like fun.

I'm still interested. How about next Sunday May 4. We can access the lake at either the north end parking area or the little park on the South end.

When do you want to go, AM, PM or both?

I will post a map with directions later today.

Fishbrain, have you fished Fork before in your tube? And if you have please tell me some fish tales about it! And how you like to fish it, Texas rig, Carolina, jigs, topwater, etc. Thanks for any juicy tidbits! P.S. I met you a few years ago fishing north of Isle du Bois on Ray Roberts, where you could park by the short pipe fence at the end of the dirt road. I remember you caught a good sized bass on a Ribbit or some kind of frog bait over close to the beaver pond. I was the guy that just had a by-pass and my tube was still in Abilene. I figured out who you were from your bumper sticker(and reading this forum) and you correctly identified me as a "lurker". Finally got my tube from Abilene, but have never got out very far in it in these lakes. Still can't get those alligator images out of my mind. I know, what a big scarydee cat. It all began with that fringing "Jaws" movie.

I do remember you--hope you are doing well these days! Wasn't it up in Sand Branch? I was thinking that was where I was--I used to fish there all the time. They've blocked off access to that particular area--put up a big barbed-wire fence. Ticks me off every time I think about it.

LOL at the alligator statement! Yes, I have fished Fork in a tube, but it's been a few years. I used to go up in Boardtree and float tube quite a bit. In the spring, you can put in off the road that crosses the upper end and fish the area at the extreme upper end of the cove, behind the culvert, or fish the side that opens into the lake. I've had some great luck pitching soft plastics into the lily pads or running buzzbaits or frogs across them, especially early in the morning. One nice thing about doing it in the upper reaches this time of year is that you almost never see any boats--it's like having a big, ol' pond with lots of big fish all to yourself. I've also put in at Pinson a few times, which is a really nice, weedy, stump-filled cove. You can park off the road there, too.

I'll be in a big, cushy, 21-ft. Skeeter i-class on Sunday, but I'll let you know if we do any good and what was working for us.

Well I was there along with a few other TFF folks. Saw Fishin Rod and Ddub. There were several small boats out that I never got close enough to talk too.

Nice little lake. I caught 5 nice Crappie and a few dinks.

David had three when I last talked to him. Probably caught some more. I left around 1:00 PM.

All mine came slow trolling a road runner in 6'-10' water. That's an easy way to fish a new pond in a tube. Just slowly kick backwards and hold your rod to the side. Should of taken two rods to get more baits in the water.

Anyway it was fun and the pond is worth fishing. Never saw a snake.

They used to have a drilling pipe fence between the parking lot and the water. Don't know if it is still there or not. The wate is close enough to carry a small jon boat or bass buster. Maybe 100' or so.
