I grew up in South FLorida next to the everglades. And when I was older I lived in Central FLorida near the St Johsn RIver. It wasn;t out of the ordinary to ride in an airboat and Jump on a small gator for fun.

My dad and I saw a 2-3 foot gator in the far north end of Lake Lavon but that was over 20 years ago. I remember that he called a nature center that operated in Plano and they said they weren't surprised by the sighting.

I didn't see another gator until I was fishing a tournament on Lake Livingston in April 2007. My partner had pre-fished the lake the day before and he took us so far up a creek that I didn't think he would be able to turn the boat around. The creek eventually opened up into a flooded farm pond. He told me to stop fishing for a moment and be very quiet. I thought he was onto a spawning bass but then he told me to come to the front of the boat and pointed to a flat grassy area of the bank. There, between two logs was at least a 12' gator, the kind you only see in movies (or Florida). I was shocked and thrilled to see something like that in the wild. It wasn't just the length but the girth on that thing was just amazing.

Texas definitely has gators, just not the population of Florida. You really have to get into some remote areas to see them regularly.

I've heard the same a few years ago. I've personally have never seen a gator at Ray Hub and don't feel the need to.

We had one in our local lake in 1990 that started the same argument. They found him dead a few weeks later. Everyone said the water was to cold for a gator

The picturee above this proves how rare an alligator is in Texas. They made a hat because they saw a gator in the lake. Its almost like winning the super bowl!

I will believe that when I see it I know there are some in those east Texas lakes but no way there are any in Grapevine.

I have seen alligators on Lewisville, Hubbard and Lake Worth. They are here, just not as many as in East Texas and the coast where I grew up. I saw them weekly along the coast and east Texas. I have seen them once on the three DFW lakes I mentioned except for Worth. I have seen them in one particular place on Lake Worth nearly every time I fish there. It is probably the same animals I see because I have never seen more than two at a time and they are always in the same spot.

You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than you do seeing an alligator in North Texas.

Not for me...thank goodness...I have seen several gators on Fork. Several up in the back of little caney. There are gators in many lakes from dallas and south
