I have a 96 f350 that is hard to and sometimes wont start when hot. It has a egr code P0487 but cannot find any info on that code. I know the IPR requested is 600psi but actual IPR psi is 300 which is not enouph to start. Any ideas?

I hope you find your solution. The 96 uses the 7.3 liter motor.

Have your batteries load tested. Will it start with a shot of WD-40 in the air intake? And it is a 7.3.

If it is an '06, it is still under warranty. Take it in to the Ford house there in B/CS.

Since it is a 06 I would venture to say it is a EGR cooler or EGR valve if not both. Those are 2 fairly common issues with the 6.0.

I have a 06 6.0 so I am not knocking them, good motor but there are a couple of common deals with them.

Good luck and I hope you get fixed up.

I had a 2005 6.0 and I loved it. I had to get rid of it cause diesel and oil changes were killing me. I put 51,000 miles on it and never had any issues. it pulled my basscat like it was not back there.

Bob, your truck actually needs 500 psi of icp pressure for the ficm to fire the injectors.More than likely you have a oil leak in the high pressure oil system. On an 06 the common cause is the high pressure oil pump quick connect fitting will blow apart and not seal allowing pressure to bleed off.If you have under 100k miles then there is a $100 deductible and it will be fixed under ford powerstroke 5yr/100k mile warranty.Have the dealer reference
technical service bulleting 06-17-06.There is an updated bracket
to keep the quick connect fitting from vibrating and blowing out the fitting again. This is the most common cause, there could be other concerns.Any reputable ford tech will air check the high pressure oil system or block off the heads to find the leak.Hope this answers your question. The po487 doesn't ring a bell, my suggestion would be to hook it up to a ford scanner ids, wds,or pda. shoot me a pm if you have any more questions

Sincerely,
