Ok, I'm heading to Jamaica for a little R&R with the wife. Anyone know if Jamaica is worth fishing? Any guides or ideas as to where I should look? We are heading down there April 15th.

I know they have Tarpon and Snook but a few articles that I read said that its not a good fishery anymore.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My only advice would be the advice Captain Call gave Newt when asked if he could/ought to bring a pistol on their foray into Mexico "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".

I believe that applies to bringing your tackle along.

Good advice Robin...

AggieRaf,

I've heard reports that there are a few bonefish there and small numbers of Tarpon...not enough to justify going there to fish for them, but if you're there anyway, why not give it a try? Once you get there, ask around for someone that fishes for them....you might get lucky.

ask the locals. fish before the sun comes up. listen for schooling fish when its dark. and you should be able to sight cast to the right when the sun comes up. then fish when the sun goes down. watch out for sting rays and sharks in the morning. they get brave and come really close to the shore

Man be careful down there. The wife and I went on a cruise last sept and I spent about 4 hrs in Jamaica. Was worried we would get robbed the entire time. Ask at the hotel you are staying at about a dependable fishing guide. Never go out alone and stay ON the beaten path. Dont get caught in a back alley.

Gosh. You guys make Jamaica sound, great. I may push it close to the bottom of my list, based on your responses. Did any of you get to try any BBQ, while you were down there?
