For anyone that is going or has been to Galveston lately, i need a fishing report on the sharks down there. I have a boat that will get me anywhere in the bay, but preferably not more than a mile outside. I would just like to know if they are in the bays yet, and where to find them. I'm thinking about heading down there this upcomming weekend to find some. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan;

Most of the guys are telling me mid April is about the time to count on them moving in. I would expect that no later than the end of April they should be in the area.

Also if you do want to try to venture out of the bay a little on a good day. Go about 2-3 miles out past the end of the jetties and drift fish back to the jetties. I've caught lots of sharks in that little stretch as well as gotten on top of a shcool of bull reds that hit in doubles for close to 45 minutes etc...

I appreciate the help. I'll actually be fly fishing, so i think i'm just going to plan on waiting til they move into the bay. And for me to head out of the bay, it would have to be a very very nice day outside being that i have a 17'6" Wooldridge Alaskan jet boat, nearly flat bottom, made for running extremely shallow water. But mid april, i will plan on being down in that area, thanks for the help

Dan,

we've just had too much late cool weather and heavy rains. The bay water will be filthy and cold.....I would save your Money and time for at LEAST another month. Maybe we'll get a little sunshine and spped up the process but by all accounts I wouldnt head that way until the end of April-May.

I caught a small bonnet head shark yesterday at the galveston fishing pier. It was 20 inches long. I have seen a few small sharks caught this month mainly bonnet head.
