Thinking about buying another gaff for the boat. My old one has a wide gap that is probably a 4 inch gap. Some of you that fish and practically live in the gulf, what is your thoughts/ opinions on the gap size. I saw some good deals on some 2 1/2 inch and 4 inch gaffs. Kings, Dolphin and the usual fish less than 20 miles out is what I am after. My old gaff works OK, but was thinking that a smaller gap might be better, but not sure. Any thoughts on the subject? Thanks!!!!!!!

Usually a 4 foot Aftco 3" is what I use..

For smaller fish I have a 3' 2" Aftco that seems to work well but only for smaller fish.

I use a 4' gaf with 2 1/2" hook. I don't know what you would use a 4" gap hook for. Maybe a marlin.

Offshore you can't get by with one gaff. Hand held 2-3' 2" gap for snapper. 5 Foot 3" gap for mahi and most pelagic. 6-10 foot 3.5 to 4" " gap for king, jack and other spooked strong, large fish to get them gaffed farther from the boat
