we fished there two weekends ago, survey station guy said the biggest catch he'd seen that day was a boat of two fishermen, five trout and two reds... and that was at 6:00 p.m. when he gave us that info.... we were skunked and it looked like most others were as well...

I am headed out Monday for a quick day trip. I was out there two weeks ago Monday and found a lot of reds. I was rained out after just a short while on the water. I put in at Charlies.

ended up chasin down a few reds, all on SHALLOW back bays. ended up with 5 between two of us. biggest was 26 1/2", smallest was 22". all from drifting, tried wading once on a real hot "pocket" that we ran by and didn't get a bite. didnt really fish all that hard anyways. It was weird, everyone we saw was in groups. almost every boat we saw was in a group of at least 4-6 other boats all fishing a diameter of about 50 feet. it seemed like no one realized that we had millions of gallons of water to be fished. oh well, more fishing space for me. \:\) day turned out beautiful, wind died down, clouds cleared. awesome day to be out on the water. well, gonna hit the sack early after a day like that. tight lines to everyone.

The highlight of the trip was good crawfish at Carmines Friday night and good fried oysters, fish and shrimp at Cathys on Saturday night.

We fished Friday and Saturday. We put in at Clarks. There was no live bait in the mornings, but if you came by after 3pm, they had live bait. Friday we fished around the Mitchell's Cut area with dead shrimp. There were boats all around and I didn't see many people catching anything. We caught about 15-20 whitings using dead shrimp. On our way back to see if they had live bait yet, we helped a stranded boater and pulled his boat back in. By the time we returned from that, we decided to call it a day.

On Sat. morning we went to the jetties. Boats on both sides of us were catching 30"+ redfish, but we only caught a few small sheepshead. One boat had a guide and I'm not sure what they were using but it was working. As soon as he would get one fish in the boat, there would be another one hooked. Since we weren't having any luck, we went back in and picked up some live shrimp in the afternoon and went to Grass Island and did some drift fishing. We caught a few trout, but all were to small.

From what people were saying, it seemed to be a hit or miss weekend for most.

I caught about 5 slots on the flats. I went on Monday. There was not any bait activity I could see anywhere. I could not get anything in the big bay. I posted a report with a few pics in the saltwater report section. Good luck.
