Guys,
I am looking to buy a new tow vehicle soon and I have always been a Toyota guy. I am a road sales rep so I am liking the sound of the 20MPG listed on the 08 Silverado and the 100,000 mile warranty. Does anyone have one they could chime in on the Pros or Cons? How do they ride/handle? Have you had any problems??

If you get the crew cab version, be warned the '07 and '08 models don't come with air vents in the rear of the console for the backseat passengers anymore.

If you decide to get a GM product make sure you call Monte Coon.

If you're going with the official EPA estimate of 20 mpg listed on the window sticker, you will be disappointed.

Does that apply to Toyota products?

I think that the EPA tests are done at 55 mph. At realistic highway speeds except about 2-3 less.

I dont know I have always gotten better mpg in almost every vehicle I have driven than the epa estimate and I dont drive 55. Driving fast isnt what necisarily kills you gas milleage, it dont help but gettin on it from a stand still like at all the red lights and stop signs is what will really kill it fast. Keep the rpms down and watch fuel milleage soar.

Do you have the 5.3? My wife drives an '08 1/2 ton with the 4.8, I've been looking at trying to improve the fuel milage. What did that mufflar set you back, is it extremly loud, or just has a deeper tone?

I always think it is funny most people get better milleage out of the 5.3's than the 4.8's, bigger motor with more power and better milleage.

I do not know the technical term, but the 5.3 will "shut down" 2 cylinders when not needed to improve fuel milage....

i think it drops 4 cylinders and i do have the 5.3. i'll have to check and see what model borla but it was 150 installed. single in single out and i welded a stainless tip on for looks. its preety quite in the cab. its less drone in the cab than a 50 series flowmaster. at idle and normal driving its got just a liitle more tone than stock w/ a great deep tone. watch out when you get on it.

I can't say one way or the other yet.I haven't even put 1K miles on my '08 crew 5.3 litre.

My first tank of gas got me 13.5mpg city driving.

I haven't checked it for towing mileage yet.

For a short wheelbase truck it rides pretty good.

According to the EPA all 2008 models have been tested with a new system that was designed in 2006. They say that you should expect the new test to lower the mileage estimates by about 12 percent from previous years.
Thats great for a half ton to do that. With the power that these trucks have its a wonder.

I have been driving Chevy trucks for a lot of years and have never had a problem to speak of. I currently drive a 2007 Z-71 and it's great.I get 17.5 average and over 20 highway. My mileage drops to about 14 when towing my 2006 Basscat Puma. As mentioned on an earlier post, I never pull in overdrive, especially when in hilly country.Oh yeah, it rides and drives great!

I have the GMC 5.3 (2007) and I love it!!! I had flowmasters installed (the SUV version), has a nice tone to it. My foot is heavy, so I get about 15 to 17 mpgs, 14 towing my 20' Skeeter. At least it's not a diesel!!!! Can't see paying $4 a throw for the same mileage!!

i get 17 highway but thats slowing down to 50 going to 80 slowing down to 20 going 80... san antonio sucks... i got 21.4 driving from here to austin going 80 and that was at 6500mi. since then i'll get 19. i plan on getting single borla exhaust and a cold air intake, so when i get my bigger tires i can get the same mileage. '07 5.3 ext cab silverado. i get 15 towing my little boat, and for the record i hate chevy's auto tranny, new or old

Smaller motor has to work harder to get the same size truck going. I had a Z-71 with the 4.8 and started looking at swapping the 5.3 into it. I did a ton of mods to the 4.8 too, different cam, tune, exhaust, intake, it got better power but at the expense of mileage, it didn't really change. Did one better and bought a Duramax.

ive got 2 an 08 yukon and an 08 serria 4x4 z71 both with 5.3l. only difference is the rear end gear ratio. 4x4 has 3.73 and the yukon has a higher one, but they both run good and get about 17 mpg's. the 4x4 pulls better in my opinion.

I have an 05 GMC Sierra Crew cab, 5.3, 3:73/1 differential.
20.5 @ 60 mph, 18 @ 70 mph. Probably the most comfortable ride
I have ever had. 57k miles now. We keep it parked mostly for out of town trips because of gas prices. (My run around vehicle is a Kawasaki KLR650 @ 46 mpg)

Have any of ya'll tried a programmer on the new Chevy Engine yet. Had one on my 96 and wasn't happy with it but considering getting one for my 07 due to high fuel prices.
