Fishing is what it is, fishing. You must contain a fishing license if you fish. But there are a few exceptions like for example, fishing in state park waters. Be sure to read the rules and regulations in your hand book first to rule out all possible fines. They can be costly. You also have to contain a valid fishing license if you are throwing a cast net. So be sure and read the hand book first or go to their web site to obtain all the details.

I have also posted the TP&W web site so you can obtain the information that you are asking about. (game fish caught with cane poles)

As long as you don't set out over 100 cane poles you are safe.

A cane pole is defined as a Line, with hook, attached to a pole. Page 34 of the 2008 Texas Outdoor Annual handbook. It is legal. However, for trout, on the special regs part of the Guadalupe River, only artificial lures may be used as bait (I guess you could throw flieslures with a cane pole). Same paragraph. If you are 17 or older, you need a freshwater/saltwater license, unless you are born before 9/1/30 (69+ yo), blind, mentally disabled or mentally retarded. There is NO trout stamp in Texas, now. There are discounts for various things.
