I'm not sure what the part is called or what it's for, but Everytime I push my key in to choke my engine, i can see fuel squirting through the top of a red plastic valve with an air fitting on top of it. It's all attached to, what looks like a small solenoid. The red plastic part has a small crack down one side of it where the fuel is coming from.

What is this peice called?
What's it for?
And is there a way I can just buy that red plastic peice or do I have to get it all?

This is on a '92 Johnson 115 V4

I helped a guy with this same problem just last November. That is your electric choke. It probably has four screw holding the part on with the red valve and air fitting. You have to take the choke off, then take the four screws off and replace either the cap and the red valve or just the valve. We replaced both and it was only about $15, plus there is a diaphram inside that will come with the new cap that would not hurt to be replaced as well.

It should be a cheap and easy fix.

Try Fore & Aft Marine a block west of I35W just north of Berry St.
Or http://www.iboats.com
Or http://www.ishopmarine.com
Go to http://www.shop.evinrude.com click on "online parts catalogue" drill down to your year & model #, to find the part number.

They might refer to it as the "primer solenoid". When activated it allows gas to flow into the cylinders to richen up the mixture for a cold start - replaced choke plates in the early '80s.

Where can you get parts for the enrichment solenoid? I have been having to buy the hole thing from dealer $120.00. Have one ordered right now. Evinrude.com does`nt show parts for it. I keep hearing about parts for the VRO too but I hav`nt found them.

When I helped the guy with his we got the parts from R&R Marine in Pittsburg, but thats a long way from you guys. You should be able to just pick them up at your local Marine dealer or they should be able to order them.

Gary; (sorry for highjacking the post) Every J/E dealer should be able to get the parts for the enrichment solenoid. here are the #'s
341071---cover, primer solenoid.....this is the black square part with the 1 lg hose and 2 small hose fittings, also houses the red valve.
175158---Valve, maintenance....this is the red valve.
341297---gasket,solenoid...this is the diaphram that the plunger pushes against.
I will not rebuild a fuel/oil pump, mainly because the time and expense of the rebuild kit,and you get a year warrantee on a new vro. But the parts are available thru your J/E dealer. If you want I could post those #s......
