The Tyler Morning Telegraph interviewed Brett Harris and he stated that"he had only been fishing 20-minutes when he landed the big fish on a WATERMELON-colored Lizard in shallow water". He was fishing the banks for spawning fish but could not see the fish because of the choppy waves due to the 30-mile per hour gusting winds. Didn't mention anything about a Swimbait... The following is from the TP&W SAL web site. ShareLunker No. 450 Caught by Brett Harris of Tyler, TX March 17, 2008 in Tyler State Park 14.5 pounds, length 27.75 inches, girth 20.25 inches Bait/Lure: rainbow-trout imitating swim bait Water Body Record? Yes Day of Week: Mon Moon Phase: FQ+3 Beyond that I, in person, and face to face, had Brett Harris both tell me, and show me the lure that he caught his Big Girl on. TFP

i caught the biggest bass ive ever caught out of that lake about 8 yrs. ago at a church campout.took my john boat. i released it imediatley but i weighted it with a crappy rusted scale. showed like 15 but that was obviuosly wrong. i estimate it was as least 11-12lbs. though. caught it on a db3 by the dam.

Fishing Physicist, why don't you just get a bus and start taking people out there to pressure the heck out of those fish? Remember, it is only 64 acres!

Fishing Physicist, why don't you just get a bus and start taking people out there to pressure the heck out of those fish? Remember, it is only 64 acres! Because it's not necessary. The end result of turning the Big Girl over to the SAL program is going to cause the lake to become pressured, not to mention the Tyler Papers coverage. The only way to keep Tyler State Park, or a similar place a secret is not to reveal that you caught a big bass there. Once a fish is donated to the SAL program the media is going to cover it, period, end of story. My posts here will reach only a very small fraction of the number of people that the Tyler Paper will. Then the SAL web page is also going to spread word of the catch. My posts here are but a drop in the bucket. TFP

He told the Newspaper one thing and you the other. Just because he told you that face to face doesn't mean he didn't lie to your face...lol Well he could have used a big live shiner, or a big spinnerbait, or a Trap. The only way to really know is to have been there when Brett caught the fish, and seen for one's self what he was fishing. Then again if say an independent third party were to confirm the swimbait then I would give a good probability that was what was used. Beyond that TP&Ws SAL web site states that he caught the fish on a swimbait. So, I've got three things that lead me to believe the swimbait theroy. Brett's own word, and independent third party who witnessed the catch, and the fact that TP&Ws SAL web site states that it was a swimbait. OTOH, there is only one source that has a green lizard as the bait. TFP

Here's a pic of that lake record. I used to fish that lake every year during spring break, and I have hooked into some really nice fish, but none that big. Oh my!! Fished out of tubes, and regularly had bass attack my sneakers while floating. That is a trip. Their eyes get so red when they are pissed off. Congrats!! One of my Mom's sisters died Sunday, and I've been tied up with the coming funeral, etc.. BTW, my answering robot is message delete happy, immediately deleting each message as soon as it has finished. The upshot is that I didn't get your phone number. Please IM me your phones number/s. I should be free after 3 PM Wednesday. TFP

As of this posting this thread has had 1630 hits. So let's be conservative and say only 50% of the daily circulation read the articles on the Harris SAL that would be over 20,000 equivalent hits. That would be more that 13 times as many hits from the Tyler Paper as here on the TFF. TFP

That would be more that 13 times as many hits from the Tyler Paper as here on the TFF. Number of those 20,000 who care about fishing or know what a sharelunker is...11 Sorry there Cameron but you're forked. Here's why: On the one hand you've got the Tyler Paper which has a circulation of over 40k. Your counter-point is that most of the readers don't fish, which is true enough. OTOH, you've got the web site for SAL program. Obviously those individuals that are the most interested in fishing for SAL will keep up with the SAL situation via that web site. So, you've got, 1 a mass media outlet with relatively small percentage of folks that are interested in fishing for big bass, on the other hand you've got the SAL program web site with a small, but vastly more interest in big bass, yet still it has at least the 'circulation' of TFF. Additionally, I would note that just because that my thread generates x-number of hits the number of folks that are going to go to Tyler State Park to fish for big bass is going to be very much less than 100%. Finally, given that Tyler State Park is an hour or less away from Fork, and farther from the DFW metro-mess which lake would one target for a shot at a SAL given that Tyler State Park has produced only two SALs, vs. how many from Fork. So in the final analysis you are stilled forked. TFP
