I am trying something new (new to me anyway). I bought some whole corn feed, not deer corn, mixed it with two beers (Keystone of course), garlic and boiling water. I am going to let it set for a few days and then try it as a "chum". Has anyone tried something similar to this, if so what were the results? What are yall's opinions on the mixture?

Sounds good to me. May take 5 or so days though. I'm trying something similar. taking deer corn to sour, but I have heat mats from my reptiles so I set 'em up on those and added sugar and active yeast from my fruit fly cultures. Already is bubbling and smelling a bit after a day

You making chum or bourbon? Then again, I guess a good chum would be a by-product of making corn whiskey.

If the fish aren't biten' you can sip some of the "chum". Then you don't care if they're biten'

The only thing I have found by using corn is the fish fill up on it quickly. Using a smaller grain it takes longer for them to fill up so they will take your bait before they get too full. I have used cracked corn and it worked better for me. Just my 2 cents.

it will work but will bring in carp too.

I use sour corn as well, works just fine, just dont through a hole lot out. What I usually do is through out about a gallon of it the night before or two nigts before, and then they are in there for a few days. I will then just toss out a cup full while fishing. Wheat works better in my opinion, but the feed stores around here where I live dont carry any right now.

I like to use the "cracked" or "rolled" corn whenever possible. Both of these seem to make the really cloudy juice faster and have worked well for me in the past. I like to do a 50/50 corn and milo. Or a 33/33/33 corn milo wheat. But i dont think all that matters that much. I have actually done much better on lake waco with soured oats than with anything else.
What ever you use, make sure that it is REALLY sour before u use it. I like to have mine out in the summer sun for atleast a week or under a heat lamp in the winter for 5-10 days.
To make it work faster, add some brown sugar to the dry grain before u add water, and use warm or hot water if u can

also, i have noticed if u chum with corn, the carp can and will run the cats out if they get to many in one area. We sat on one place on Lake Ivie and caught 6 big channels and then they just quit bitin. that when i really started noticing all the fish swimming under the sonar and eventually snagged a carp.

Thats when you break out some corn as bait and catch the carp!

To scare 'em off, just yell out that you are out of cut bait.

well, the carp did one better for us on ivie.
After they came in, they started coming to the top and jumping. well after about 20 mins of this one splased the top of the water about 20yrds from the boat and just bellied up. We used the TM and went and netted him. I cut him for bait and that dang fish was completely stuffed with corn!!

I HAVE DONE THIS.THERE IS NO SENSE IN WASTING GOOD BEER ON FISH.I USE CRACKED CORN,GET ABOUT HALF A 5gal. BUCKET OF CORN FILL IT WITH WATER.IN THE SUMMER IT TAKES ABOUT A WEEK TO SOUR.IT MAY TAKE LONGER THIS TIME OF YEAR.SET UP 2 MARKERS ON YOUR FISHING SPOT AND POUR THE SOUR CORN BETWEEN THEM.ANCOR OUT WITHIN CASTING DISTANCE.PUT YOUR BAIT ON THE BOTTOM,CRACK OPEN THE BEER YOU SAVED,THEN GET READY.

I had read somewhere in this forum that you should pour a beer in the corn. Wasn't sure why, but I am new to using chum. Thank goodness I used a Keystone. I will however save the Shiner for drinking. Thanks for the info.

You can get a mix of Millet, Milo, and cracked corn as bird food at Walmart as I recall. Might be cheaper by the time you drive to a feed store. Personally I have seen the best results with Ole Roy. Only draw back w/ Old Roy is it floats. Any one know a cheap bagged dog food that doesn't float, post it ;-)

I was going to ask the dog food question. I don't do much kitty fish'n, except with my brother. One of the last times I went with him I picked up a cheap bag of dog food, not Ole' Roy, but something like that. It did not float and I thought it pulled the cats in. We would not be catching any for a while, nor any one around. I would throw a few hands full of the dog food out. In a little bit we would be getting hits. Did that about five or six times before we limited on small channels. I am taking some produce sacks with me to put the dog food in next time out. I plan to put several pounds of dog food in along with a large rock. Tie a roap on it, so I can retreive it and not leave it in the lake. Toss it in and see what happens.

BTW If anyone wants produce sacks, the sacks that onions, oranges and such come in, let me know. I could mail you a few. We get several each time we do a food pantry day, twice a month. I could not supply everyone, but do have five or six at a time I would be willing to send if you want to pay the postage.

In the past I have used canned cat food, just poke some holes in the cans and lower them down. Krappie cat is right, no need in wasting beer, just buy a jar of yeast and put a spoon fool in each bucket, speeds up the process and you dont need to waste the beer.
