Hello,
I'm upgrading my electronics to include GPS. I'm getting an external antenna, and would like feedback on where to mount it. I have a Triton Fish/Ski. I'm considering mounting the antenna on small area (fiberglass) just infront of windshield. Concern is that windshield my have impact on receptions.

I assume the "3 feet away from head unit" is to avoid interference issues? Also - the topcap....is that the top edge of the boat - probably 5-or-6" wide fiberglass? (For example, on driver side, the fuel cap is located there.)
I know its desireable to mount near sonar transducer (to minimize error when marking spots).

yes, topcap is the same surface area the fuel filler is on. correct on closer to the transducer, more accurate when you are sitting 25 yards off and casting to the spot.
mounted mine in a cup holder in the floor. Just dont like drilling into my 40K dollar boat for a 1K depthfinder...Works fine. Have a Lowrance that came stock and it is up on top cap and loses satelite every 20 min or so??? Go figure..

Mine is mounted on the rear deck at the junction of the starboard gunwale and stern (Lowrance LMS-525C DF). The transducer is also on the starboard side.

I tried both next to the head unit and at the aft end of the boat before mounting. There was a noticeable difference when I moved the antennae 3-4 feet away from the head unit. You could literally watch the satellite bars drop as the puck got closer to the head unit.
I mounted mine just like Lil Louie. I can get a signal while the boat is in the garage!
