that is one beautiful, awesome fish. I would not be able to sleep for a month if I caught a fish like that.

That does not surprise me one bit. I have camped and the park and fished that lake. Got broke off on 10# line, before I discovered braid. I was told by park officials that the lake is stocked with SAL's. You can launch your boat but you cant start the big engine.

Is this the same tyler that has the old and new lake? If so I didn't realize they put trout in there. Lake Tyler is not the same as Tyler State Park. Tyler State Park contains a 67 acre lake that is a couple of miles north of I-20 just off HWY 17 on the west side of 17. Lake Tyler is on the other side of the City of Tyler TFP The state park is on Hwy 16 at Exit 562 off of I-20

I don't know about the rest of you Yahoos, but that picture should be on Next month's cover photo for TFF! That is just about a perfect photo of a great looking fish. Brett Harris not only did a terrrific job of catching that monster, but he knows how to take a good picture too! YEP .... I agree. Absolutely Fantastic...

Highway 14 basically runs North & South and runs through Sand Flat, and into Hawkins. Highway 17 runs North & South and runs through Grand Saline, and Alba. My mistake. TFP

Oh FUN! The Tyler Morning Telegraph gets it wrong. TWICE, or not.... Tyler State Park Lake sent its second Budweiser ShareLunker and a new lake record to Athens Monday. Actually, it's Tyler State Parks third SAL. The 14.5-pound largemouth bass took a rainbow-trout imitating swim bait being worked in 3 feet of water by Tyler angler Brett Harris. Brett's bass went 14 pounds, & 3 ounces. What in the name of Saint Leibowitz is going on!?!?!?! TP&Ws SAL webpage lists Brett's bass as being 14.5 pounds. I talked to Brett just yesterday afternoon, and got it straight from him that his bass went 14 pounds 3 ounces. I wonder if TP&W re-weighed her, and found that she was heavier than the BBQs scales showed???? I'll give Richard Ott a call tomorrow and find out what's going on. s lTFP

I'm work at Mack's Discount Tackle today.
I've just gotten word Brett Harris of Tyler, caught a 14 pound 3 ounce Largemouth Bass this morning at about 10:30 CDT. The TP&W SAL folks are on their way to pick it up. It was weighed on legal scales at a nearby BBQ stand, and is about 26"-27" in length.
Brett caught this SAL on a Reaction Strike Poseion 6" Slow Fall swimbait that he got here at Mack's.
Not only is this fish a SAL but it is also a waterbody record for Tyler State Park, and the largest bass ever caught in Smith County. The previous record was caught in March of 2000, and weight about 13 and a third quarter pounds.
TFP The Tyler Morning Telegraph interviewed Brett Harris and he stated that"he had only been fishing 20-minutes when he landed the big fish on a WATERMELON-colored Lizard in shallow water". He was fishing the banks for spawning fish but could not see the fish because of the choppy waves due to the 30-mile per hour gusting winds. Didn't mention anything about a Swimbait...
