just picked up my new to me Ranger 518vx and looking to get the prop wet this weekend. Has anyone fished Medina recently and would like give some advice.

Picked up the boat in Del Rio yesterday and had a couple hours to fish Amistad. Only caught one 3+ but lost 10 or more, seems I forgot how to fish a worm.

This time of year you cannot beat a tube. Chartruese is the best color rigged ona 3/16 jighead. Also a C-Rig w/ 1/2 ounce weight and a long leader (flouro). I use a 4-5 ft leader out there always. Look for points with a stair-step look to it and they will be there. I would think they would be close to spawning.

The fish should be moving up. I would fish midway to back in coves looking for either staging or spawning fish. I would throw senko's, flukes, small spinners and cranks. I would also keep some type of topwater handy. Good luck!!!

My buddy called me wednesday and he did pretty good there using small crank baits in 10-15 ft of water.

I was there, but a month ago. Bouncing a spinnerbait or crankbait down steep banks on points was the key.

I just came off the lake, the water on the lower end was pretty clear in most places and in the high 50's to 61 for the highest that I saw. I did see some fish sunning and a couple on beds. I caught two off beds but they were not easy. I spent over an hour to catch a 3 lbr but what the heck I was having fun watching it and 3 other just kind of hang out by this bed.

Haven't been to Medina in awhile. My brother and I will be heading out there on Saturday. Probably start at Sawmill or Cherry Cove. This lake is a hard lake to learn, but once you do, not to many "zero" days to dissapoint you. Ya'll know if the Friday night tourneys have started. I'm sure they have, since the time has changed. Also looking for info on the Saturday tourneys I keep hearing about. Any info on this? Let ya'll know how we do this weekend. Keep an eye out.

Thanks for the help. Saturday was slow with only 5 fish by noon. Sunday picked up a bit with the bigest fish topping 3 1/2. All the better fish were picked up on a texas rigged Senko (green purple flake) in 6 to 10 feet in the center of the creeks.

We there yesterday and caught mostly dinks. The two of us had 22 LMB and two whites, the latter just happen to be where I thought the bass were. Still fun to catch though. Would have been only four keepers, but they were all released to be caught another day.

I have not been on Medina since it filled back up with water.

Where is the best place to launch?

I usually only fish Medina on weekdays because I absolutely hate dealing with crowds at the boat ramp and jetskis running all over the place.

I either launch at Red's Cove which doesn't really have a paved ramp but as long as the water is up I don't have problems launching with my 2wd truck. They charge $8 to launch and on weekdays you just put the money in a box hanging on a tree. They have really nice docks.

Or I launch at the county park off of Park Road 37. On weekdays they have the main part of the park closed but if you take an immediate right once you get in the park you can get down to the boat ramp. The ramp is nice but has a very gradual slope and I have to back in pretty far to get my boat to float (end up getting my feet wet if I launch by myself but oh well). Their docks are in bad shape and very small. Their is no launch fee during the week.
