Ok I fish Rollover pass and High Island. At San Luis pass is there a boat ramp? Is the pass big or small like Rollover?

Yes, you can go through San Luis Pass. It can get rough going through there. Its a lot bigger than Rollover and the current can be dangerous for a small boat.

About 9 years ago went through it but we was in a 24 foot center console. There is a lot of shallow spots in there and some heavy currents going through there so be carefull.

You should be okay going through there as long as its a calm day. the Galveston side of the pass is shallow and fairly calm, the Freeport side is deep and the current rips through there constantly. Whatever you do, do not attempt to wade on the Freeport side. If you break down in or near the pass, stay in your boat. It seems like people drown there just about every year while wading in plain sight of signs warning them of dangerous currents. I think there is a ramp at the Park at San Liis Pass and also one at Cold Pass. Never launched there, so don't if they are good ramps or not.

I am mainly going to be fishing at the park and at san luis peir. Up for anything, species not important.Just wanting to get my girlfriend into some fish! thanx....

Mike,

If you're wanting just to get to the Gulf you can put in at Bolivar Yatch Basin. its about half way down the Bolivar Peninsula and is a really nice facility. If you're driving down the main road through Crystal beach and all those other little towns look for a GIANT tan colored fuel tank on the right. This thing is probaly 25 ft. high and likely 20 or 30 feet wide. Anyway...You will see a white sign with blue lettering "Bolivar Yatch basin"...follow the signs..They have pretty good bait most of the time and you can be at the ship channel in about 5 minutes. Its about a 20-30 minute ride out to the end of the north Jetty from there depending on the waves. Oh it does tend to get really rough right there at the end of the peninsula where the Galveston Ferry Landing is so you will have to slow down and navigate the big swells...but I've done it in a 17 ft. Whaler before.....As far as putting in at the North Jetty....Not ONLY no...but HELL no!...Two reasons..that ramp and surrounding water is EXTREMELY shallow. Its been silted in....Also there is no "store" or marina there so your vehicle will be left completely unattended...well except for a group of "El Dudes" that will likely be peering into your truck window to see if there is anything that you might have that they could "borrow"...permanently....I'm not sayin...I'm just sayin...it happened to me.

Sad news. SLP claimed another victim this weekend. A 16 year old Deer Park girl drowned while swimming near the pass with a friend. She was found an hour after going under almost a mile from where the incident started.

SL Pass is like trying to cross highway 45 at rushhour. People need to respect the power of the water. Sad to hear another young person died .
