I guess the bass eat all the baby crappie an thats why we dont catch em alot? Last year during the spawn i saw abunch of fish in the back pond and another guy there said that they were crappie but i wasnt sure. so i guess its just about getting lucky when one hits it.

There are some very large Crappie in the pond with the fountain that I have caught and a few that would suprise you. I have taken all of them on topwater baits and usually just before dawn. Try a Heddon Tiny Torpedo chrome/black and just rip it across the surface, really effective on the cooler mornings and you may just hook up with a nice bass as well. Hope this helps.

Good to know Bassin1970! Appreciate the info.

FYI: Returned to Bethany Lakes to test out a fishing fly. Lost a 2-Pounder. Looked like the same 2-Pounder that we lost yesterday or its brother but did manage to bring in 2 Sunfish and a little Bass. Today's Pictures

About 15". I use TPWD's "estimator" to keep me in the ballpark.

Hooked and landed a Bass at Bethany Lakes this afternoon. Warmer day... a fast retrieve was the key. Bass went 16.5" in size.

Fshng84, what kind of fly did you use?

I went to bethany today and tried a bead head wooley bugger and a clouser minnow but couldnt get anything to bite. So i tried a rattletrap and nothin. Also threw out a line for catfish and didnt get any action with that either. Seemed like a slow day for me.

Are you fishing Ablon park in Garland?

If so, what are you catching? Haven't seen a bass caught out of there in many years.

marked131, used a Bead Head Olive Wooley Bugger on a fast retrieve. Also, removed the strike indicator that I used to fish it slowly.

Had zero hits on the slow retrieve, then I noticed a little Bass chasing the fly when I was taking the slack out of the line for another cast.

Switched to the fast retrieve and got a few hits but no hookups. Then, noticed the ducks were muddying the water in one area, so I started fishing it. Two light hits with no hookup, then a solid strike by the 16.5" Bass.

Went to bethany creek twice today. First time i went i hooked a nice bass probably 3-4 lb on a red rattle trap but it did something funky so that it felt like i was trying to pull in a boat and it wasnt moving at all so i decoded to cut the line. Went back at 530 and caught three bullheads on hot dogs (using flyrod). Missed the hook set on acouple of others. The largest one went 10-11 inches.

Fshng84, if you need a cat to get the 2010 top 3 going ill email you a pic but it doesnt meet length requirement

Follow the creek that leads to the back pond in bethany lakes. Its in the middle of a neighborhood and has a fountain. Its pretty good for bass and it has a bunch of small bullheads and theres usually acouple of good sized sunfish.

Fished the Blue River in Oklahoma today. Tough and frustrating fishing day given the number of Trout seen actively feeding. But, managed to catch one Stocker! Today's Pictures

You could eat the fish outta celebration but alot of the storm drains lead there and all the fertilizers from the lawns drain off into the drains thus into the the lakes then the fish drink that water and live in it.
