During the season of spring we invite you to join our multispecies contest. From the American eel to yellow bullhead and from gizzard shad to alligator gar we're going to try to catch them all. For each different species you land over this time frame, simply submit your photos to txfishes.com, Then we will add that species to your tally. This is always a fun contest that challenges you to go after some species usually not targeted. Our winner will be the person who submits the most species of fish.
The winners of this contest will be decided by total species logged.

This year, we've made a couple rule changes these being; we're setting a 4" minimum for *all* fish entered, and we're not accepting photos of dead fish.

Sign up today at txfishes.com. This is our flagship contest, and is always a blast. Ask some of the folks who were involved last year.

This contest runs from the 1st day of spring through the last day of spring.

That is the idea, Scott.

*IF* someone did log a blacktail shiner (we had a few last year) and it was 4", there'd be no question on her ID.

heheheheh

Brett,

Starless failed miserably last year, barely making the top 10.

Go ahead and join, as it is a lot of fun, and you never know what will happen.

I know there are a few people like bubba that came to txfishes.com after the multispecies contest last year. Well, jump in, this is th big one.

last year's top 10:

Long Haired Dave - 30 species
bret - 26 species
ccabal - 24 species
aquaticgm - 23 species
eljeffe - 22 species
JvT - 22 species
boatin4bass - 21 species
somethingsmellsfishy - 17 species
Starless Dragon - 17 species
Forever Fishing - 17 species

WOW, 30 species is what it took to win. We had 43 species entered as well, so even at the end it was still wide open.

Will we surpass either of those totals this year?

Also of interest, Dr. Tim Bonner of Texas State University has offered TXFishes another copy of his book for our winner.

This is one of the best books for fish identification dealing exclusively with Texas I've used.

nice.

17 people already, and hoping for more tonight after work.

If you're reading this, go sign up. It is free, and fun to enter fish even if you don't think you'll be able to win.

LMAO.

Yeah, I was a miserable failure.

Partly because about half way through, I suddenly remembered that carp fight a hell of a lot harder then most of the other species I was catching, and went back to carp fishing for a while lol.

This year...I plan to win. ( Which means I'll give up half way through again hehehe. )

However...

I DID win the Roadrunner contest. Lol.

Two years ago, I caught several big trout at one of the stockings. The last two years, though, I've only fished for trout once (and only because I took my kids) because I hate to spend my precious fishing time on 12-inch fish when I could be catching 30-inch fish instead.

Bonner's book is an excellent reference, but it isn't complete. My copy is at work, but, if I remember correctly, it doesn't cover all 3 buffalo species. Didn't we point that out in the class, Bret? Or am I wrong (again)?

It doesn't, I'm not in my office now, and I can't recall what was askew there, but anything missing is on the website ( a great resource while waiting in the second edition).

I'm not sure if we pointed it out, or just noted it to ourselves.
