If you guys and gals had to choose which one would you prefer? I currently own a 2005 F250 6.0 super duty FX4. The dealership I work for wants me to get into a 2008 6.4 F250 FX4.
I like my truck but I am sure there are pro's and con's to each truck. I know the 6.4 get worse gas mileage then the 6.0 but whatelse should I be concerned about?
my current truck is well broken in and the seat is comfy now with my butt well worn into it.

My 6.0 has been trouble free. It sounds like yours has as well. Why would you switch to one that burns more fuel, especially when it is approaching $4 per gallon?
Along those lines, why does Ford continue to slowly decrease their diesel MPG (7.3>6.0>6.4)? I would assume performance, but with fuel costs like they are, I would be willing to give up a lot of pep to save some money at the pump.

6.4 has its problems as does the 6.0. I'd keep the 6.0 because the 6.4 aint proven worth a darn and the epa keeps changing stuff so the companies have to change their engines too. If Ford ever gets their half ton diesel announced and released with good numbers say 20+ which they can do then it would be a great truck to have if you want a diesel. If your 6.0 is good keep it, most were a ticking time bomb but the 7.3 was the best they produced.

Why increase your payment and fuel cost?????
My wife's 2000 7.3 is looking better every day...... I also had a 2006 F250 6.0 and mine was nothing like what Ford promised it would be...
I now have a Tundra which I love as it gets as good a milage towing my boat as the 6.0 did and much better when not towing.
Of course my wife's 2000 Excursion 7.3 tops both for MPH when towing and when traveling down the highway, 14.5 towing & 18.5-20MPG highway.

I am looking at the same but different.
I love the new interior of the Super Duties. (I have a 99 Lariat F250 7.3)
The 6.4 is a power producer but a fuel consumer. And now that Diesle fuel has hit $4 per gallon. It will be hard to justify this as an economical means of transportation. Unless you are towing a trailor of some sort ALWAYS!!
You will have to give up 8K out of pocket just to start even with a "gas hog" and with gas prices being 20% less. And the fuel economy the same????
All though I do love the way the heavy trucks feel towing down the road.

Keep your 6.0, unless you could work a sponsorship package from the dealer! Seriously, I wouldn't think you would like the 6.4 with the fuel economy it is getting. There isn't anything wrong with your truck at all, so I wouldn't get rid of it just to get into another one, not much different and have your fuel mileage drop. That is why I'm still in my 7.3

Plus you have to think about the issues it has had and might have coming. I have a 2006 F250 PSD 6.0 with 42,500 miles and no issues yet,(knock on wood). My opinion would be to keep the truck you are in, good luck...

I have had the pleasure of owning a 2000 7.3, 2001 7.3, 2005 6.0, and now a 2008 6.4. I did chip out the 2001 and the 2005. To date, I run the 2008 bone stock. Yes, the mileage is not as good as I would like however, the truck rides and drives better than any of the previous models. I am not going to say that it is perfect but, what is? By the way, mileage is 15.5 Hi-way and 11.5 city. Towing 18ft Nitro is about 10.2. The best fuel economy I ever had in any of the trucks was 22.8 Hi-way but, it was chipped and a 2 wheel drive. All of the above trucks were F-250 Super Duty Crew Cabs.

I am still thinking of taking a gamble on the 08 6.4. For 2 reasons that may benefit me. 1st off I keep them until they pay for themselves. (in 1999 it was at 173K miles the break even point with the price of Diesel fuel compared to gas) Okay not a good example anymore with rising fuel costs. 2nd I am retired and the fuel milage is the same for the gasser I use now to tow with. Being that is nly 300 yards to the boat ramp that is not good logic either. The driving factor is I want something new. I have done all the math and understand that it would only benefit me by getting what I want not what I need.
In today's world keeping up with the Jones's could cost you your personal life.(IE WIFE, FAMILY, house, cars, boat and what ever else identifies you as your percieved stature)

I thought part of the allure of owning a diesel was being able to keep it a long, long, time and roll over 300,000 miles on 'em.
You guys must be swimming in money to be able to afford moving into a new 3/4 ton diesel truck every three years!
I'm jealous............but would steer clear of the Ford 6.4, unless you just 'gotta have' the King Ranch seats!

I used to buy a new rig every three years. I bought an '04 f-250 with a 6.0 and now have 85000 miles. I plan on seeing if it will run for 300000 or until I die. Having a truck that runs and pulls great and no truck payment is a new experience for me and I am liking it.
