I got talked into going to South Padre with some buddies for spring break. We will be there March 15-21 and I would like to do a some fishing for some reds and specks. I am primarily a bass fisherman and would like to have a good time with some saltwater species. Any tips or pointers on locations, time of day, lures/baits, etc.. would be greatly appreciated.

MeanGreen,
This is what you need to do. Save all your money from beer drinking and spend it on a guide. There is a guy that guides out of S. Padre that is named Dale Fridy. Dale knows the bay like the back of his hand and can put you on fish either through fly gear or light tackle. TRUST ME, you will catch fish with him. You, much like I did back when I was in school, will never forget the trip you took with him.

He is one of the BEST in his field, for sure.

Tell him Rafael sent you.

Every A-Hole and their mom will be down there for Spring Break.

If you want to fish with a guide you need to look for one out of Arroyo City of one that fishes there. That will keep you away from the wankers on the water.

Also, when I am down there I like to sit behind Louies Backyard at night and watch the drunk girls take their tops off. That way you get a nice show while targeting Cats and Reds all night.

Most guides are probably filled up so good luck on the getting one!

** Girls love to show their boobs to fisherman and if you are fishing near the nude beach they will come up to by the hordes if you snag a shark **

Your best bet is to wade fish behind the Convention Center, Coast Guard Station, Pirates Landing Pier, and Laguna Heights. Fish the jetties in the morning, early morning.

For Lures and such.

Don't waste your time talking to anyone at Jim's Pier for information, they are real wankers. Bay fish with Capt. Murphy's their deck hands are hella cool.

Best Eats on the Island
• Dirty Al’s - everything
• Blackbeards – mmm prices went up tho! Damn it
• Rovan’s – breakfast is pretty good
• Manuels - breakfast taco, king of breakfast!
• Pirates Landing, hush puppies and poppers, good shrimp and fish
• Mexiquito - enchiladas

Best bait stand is the Quick Stop just before you go over the causeway, there are also some good lil bait stands such as R and R Hi Way Bait stand. If you are on the island Dirty Al's has a decent bait setup.

Thanks a lot for all that information. I will be printing off a copy and taking it with me. I'm not really the kinda guy for the whole spring break party scene, I just want to get away and catch some fish. According to your post, I think I may want to target some shark if boobs are part of the celebration! Thanks again!

Meangreen1, The jettis is a great place to fish, you can hook on from specks, reds, black drum and maybe even a small shark. The other place would be in the pier for night fishing. The pier is to your left before you cross the causeway to the island. Good luck.
