Just wondering, what is the strangest thing/things any of you have caught? For me it would have to be a broken pair of sunglasses.
Caught them on a beetle spin fishing a small pond in Mesquite. West Lake Park, one small bass about 6 inches, several sticks and a pair of sunglasses that day. All were catch and release to the proper locations: fish back in the water, sticks and sunglasses in trash barrel.

A duck. The male mallard grabbed a topwater and tried to fly away. Picture a duck flying in circles while you fight him on rod and reel, and that's how it was. Reeled the critter in and released it. A mad duck can be a handful up close, by the way.

I broke off a spinnerbait one day on a fish that was approx. 5 lbs. Had a bad spot in the line I guess. While re-tying my buddy landed a five pounder. I asked him, "I thought you were throwing a texas rig?" being that there was a spinnerbait stuck in the side of its lip. Sure enough, he was using a Texas rigged worm, and caught the fish that had just broke me off. Took the spinnerbait out of the fishes mouth, tied it back on and caught about a dozen more on it. One in a million deal for sure.

I was fishing the Trinity river years ago with a friend of mine and caught a stringer that was full of white bass. Almost all were still alive. Once we got back to Waco, we found out my friends uncle had lost the stringer full of whites the day before.

That happned to us, but it was a pelican! It crashed on a top water bait do hard, it went several feet underwater. It was hooked very deep and was a booger to get out. Had to wrap up the bird with a towel to keep it still and even then, it wasn't easy. That was one PO'd bird when it was all said and done.

I'm not sure this counts, but while at a tank behind my parents' house I saw a duck down the bank from me going crazy flapping in the water. I ran over and started picking it up. This was a really heavy duck... or maybe it was the ten pound turtle latched on to it's leg.

Kinda like those model airplanes with the Cox motors on them we use to fly around as kids. You know the ones, they had 2 lines that went up to the plane that controlled the flight controls. It would fly around in circles while the operater would also go in circles on the ground.

Two weekends ago, my dad was throwing a norman and caught a largemouth budlight can right through the tab on the rear treble hook. It actually looked like the mouth of a fish when it first surfaced. We had a good laugh about it. Also, I caught a big snapping turtle on my father in law's pond once. The turtle was not happy.

I was fishing Lake Texoma back in '68 near a place called "the cliffs". There was a brushy trail that led down to the water.... a good place for bass.

While walking down to the water I snagged and broke off a jointed eel fishing lure. A quick search through the foliage resulted in nothing more than ticks and chiggers, so I pressed on and tied on another lure.

Two years later I took a friend back to that same area, carring my rod, reel and tackle box down to the water's edge. Upon arriving at the bank I noticed the lost lure snagged on the end of my fishing rod, hooked with my Bayou Boogie lure...shad color.
It was the same jointed eel fishing lure that I had lost two years before, rusted hooks but otherwise unhurt.

I still have that jointed eel fishing lure, never used it again.

three weekends ago for me.. Kind of the same thing for me. I caught a budlight with a spinnerbait... the hook was caught on the lip(outer rim) of the can.. it wasn't stuck through the tab or in the hole...just on the rim.. I do not know how it made it to the boat. The good thing is.. I have witnesses to back up my story... I would not have believed it.

Funny thing. My buddy was fishing with me and broke off while using a bobber. About five minutes later the bobber came by my boat just under the water, I reached over grabed it and the 3 lb catfish on it. Then I was down rigging the same day and hooked a big stick look behind the boat tried to shake it lose and it would not come lose, so I reeled it in and noticed it was a bait caster with a 7 ft rod barley used. It cleaned up nice and now is being used. That was a great day.

On a boring day on Texoma I told a buddy (he could be a little slow) that he should tie on a weightless shad and try for a sea gull. Sure enough he got one. Sea gull are not too freindly with a hook in their beak. He reeled it in and removed the hook. When released the sea gull left something behind on his leg. He said that that would have been a dead sea gull if he had seen the deposit earlier. My dad caught an owl one time on a floating mouse.

Reeled in a trash fish, (a "sucker", by northern terms) while bank fishing a reservoir in Idaho. Hooked it in the mouth, even. The "strange" part of the story is that it was already dead and gutted*.

Aside from that, I haven't really caught anything strange. Pulled in an old Zebco reel and more than my fair share of turtles, but that seems to be pretty common.

*When you catch a sucker fish up there, it's common practice to immediately gut it and throw it back.

Fishing some docks in Ft Walton Beach, hooked something large. I could barely move it and I'm thinking some huge bull red or speck... got it to the edge... a freaking horseshoe crab. Bigger than a dinner plate and heavy as can be. Not the easiest things to remove trebles out of either. I should have mounted it. \:\)

Fishing pole with a 19# catfish on it. I was fishing with my friend and he turned around to "take advantage of a tree" and the next thing we knew his setup shot in to the water like a bullet. I put on a deep diving rapala and came up with some of his line which was still attached to the pole & fish.

Mine happened on Tuesday on Ray Hubbard. I caught a female mallard in mid flight. I didn't even catch her on my top-water lure. She flew into the line. It took a second to register that the reason my pole was screaming and heading toward the middle of the lake was a duck. She finally broke off. At least the lure was hanging behind her, I assume it fell off as soon as the line went slack.

Strangest for me was hooking a bass through the "nose". Hook wasn't even in its mouth. But the strangest I've seen is a catfish my father caught. When he reeled it in, his hook was through the loop of someone else's leader hanging out of the cat's mouth.

Coleto Creek- Zebco 808, good condiction, used it for 5 years.

Choke Canyon- up from 99 bridge, snagged a 12 gauge pump shotgun with a jugline in 2004. Duck hunters, I guess, lost it.

Lets see... I caught a lawn chair on Lake Mexia, and about a 10lb soft shell in the same day. Caught a freshwater mussle on Belton trolling for whites with a 1 oz bucktail jig. Also on Belton, a perch trap with 3 big crawfish in it in a cast net, and in the same day a 4+ lbs largemouth in my cast net. A beaver on Belton on a Pop-R, and a nutria on the Lampasas River wade fishing for whites. On Lewisville I caught a C-rig with the Zoom lizard, weight and everything plus about 30 yards of line that was a backlash someone cut off. Seems like I catch more random stuff than fish.

My buddy hooked a billfold with $30 in it fishing off the pier at Eagle Mountain 30 years ago, on a flea fly.
I hooked a snake one day. Had to cut its head off to get my hook back. He wrapped his tail in the rocks and would not come loose.

I didnt know what to do so I was just lettin it take out line and then when it hit the end it jerked the poor guy to the water and my spinnerbait just fell off! I will never forget about that!

Was fishing down below Kaw dam in Okla. with surf rods fishing for flatheads. I reeled in my surf rod to put on fresh bait only to find that my hook had somehow hooked inside a slip sinker hole and there was a line going thru it also. Thought about just throwing the line in, but decided i would get the trash out of the area, so I started pulling in the broken line by hand. To everyones surprise, that on the bottom of that broken line was an 18 1/2 lb. stripper. And that was the only fish i caught for the whole weekend. Now that was the very first and also the last stripper I have ever caught.

I foul hooked a big shad on a spoon a few months ago. I thought I had a sand bass on but after a second or two it was dragging across the top of the water and the fight stopped. About 40 feet from landing it a hybrid blew up on it and almost yanked the rod out of my hand. I guess technically I caught the hybrid on live bait.

I caught a bag of spent bullet casings once under the I30 bridge on Ray Hubbard. Sealed in a ziplock with a bunch of rocks.
Also caught my HS princile in the mouth one time. Tried to throw him back, but he was hooked good and had a life jacket on. lol

Craziest thing I ever have caught was a Christmas Tree Ornemant. Someone had apparently been sinking some old trees to make brushpiles, and whoevers tree it was had missed one wooden santa. Jig hook was through the rope loop that it hangs on the tree with.

Other random things

-Multiple broken lines
-Some fish in a very small pond that looked like a bass, a perch, and vin diesel had mated. Body of a perch, color of a bass, and a big scaless area on top of its head.
-Person... fishing 5 people to a two person boat is not a good idea

Back when the hydrilla was taking over east texas lakes, i was trying to burn a ratltrap over the top of a nasty patch of the stuff. Well i ended up getting a little backlash and knew getting that lure back was going to be fun. That hydrilla was so thick.

Well after about two minutes of yanking and lifting through the hydrilla i get the lure back, and a 2 pound bass.
