My son & I ignored the forecast and drove down to Lufkin last Thursday, thinking we'd limit fast like we did this time last year. We even brought a small refrigerator to put the bags of fillets in. NOT!
We managed 3 whites and a crappie in 3 hours fishing late afternoon, then the north wind and the rain began. I got confused in all the trees and buck brush, and headed up river instead of down river toward the ramp. Long story short, it was after 8:00 pm when we found our way back to the ramp. Hands and feet wet & cold (46F), hungry & exhausted.
We stayed the night at my sister's in Lufkin, and woke up Friday to heavy snow. We decided to go home and go fishin "some other time."
Weight of the 4 fish totalled 5.4 lb on a digital scale. 3 females full of eggs, 1 male. Caught them on a 4-oz chrome rattletrap, even the crappie.
