Hey All,

I am ate up over the fuel prices as of late and I wanted to do a little informal survey of what the average fisherman is getting MPG wise.

I am looking at what your average is all around driving on a day to day basis. Not hwy vs city but all around MPG. Also would like to know if you have checked it towing.

Please take a minute or two and post up your vheicle.

Also please no war on what is better gas or diesel etc. This is simply a fact finding mission.

Thanks

Stacey you really need to find out what rear end is in your truck it makes a big difference in comparisons of vehicles.

Hey Stan,

That numbers I listed are as stock.

I do have a programmer that does something like 65, 80, and 100 HP and all of them get me slightly better MPG, probably 2 MPG on average.

Even the 100 HP is better than stock as long as I do not hotrod it.

But I wanted a stock comparison

My idea was to collect some data for different brands both gas and diesel and post up the averages here. I figure as long as most are honest then it may help future buyers.

Regards

I bet you would save a little money by upgrading to a class 6 or 7 tractor with fuel milage like that

I can see how running gas in your truck would lower the average fuel milage old town....

Someone once said there are a few things guys will lie about and one of them is fuel mileage and the other is the size of their...I forget the rest of it???? \:D

I have the same truck as NitroRick but mine is a 2006 and my in town mileage is around 15 and towing is 13. I have seen in the 18's if I can stay on the highway...but I just don't drive highway unless I have the boat.

Rear end ratio in mine is 3.73 too, they do make a 4.10 for the F350.

I have a quadzilla tuner on my truck, Quadzilla air intake system and 5" exhaust all the way through. I was getting about 18 and 14 before I had all this installed. And I am sure I get much better mileage if I would keep from racing and stomping on it. I just have a lead foot.

2000 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins diesel engine w/5sp manual and 3.55 gears. Bumped the timing up and injectors. Limited slip and 2WD. Sounds like a truck all the time.

Average mpg:17.5
would be better but my ride to work is only 3 miles one way and a number of stop signs/lights. No speed over 40....ok I cheat that just a little.

Hwy mpg:21
has gotten 23 on a long trip but its only been under 20 when I was driving over 80 and a full load of passengers/luggage.

Towing: 17.5
a light weight boat.....my name gives me away. My Ranger 518 was about 1/2 mpg less.

After reading through several dozen mileage threads on diesels for the last several years, I would call some posted here fudgers.

Mine's an itty-bitty in comparison:

2000 Ford Explorer, 4.0 SOHC V6, automatic, 3.55 rear-end, 2WD

Normal city mileage approx 17-18mpg

Normal highway mileage approx 21-22mpg

Towing mileage approx 14-16mpg, but I'm not hauling a huge boat - just an 18' CC. Best feature is the car loan - there is none, as it's PAID FOR! \:\)

I think "some" of you guys are full of *&%^, I agree with the comment about "the 2 things a guy will lie about". I have had a new 1998 Chevy p/u, a new 2000 chevy p/u, a new 2002 chevy p/u, a new 2004 dodge diesel, and now a new 2006 dodge diesel. Almost everybody I ask got or gets better mileage than I do. There is no way I can be that unlucky and have the worst mileage truck ever built from that manufacturer for that particular year, and before you say something about my driving style that is a bunch of [censored] too, I have not had a speeding ticket in over 13 years nor an accident, so don't tell me it is my driving style.

I'm looking at getting a 1992 - 1996 Oldsmobile wagon (1992 on that), Buick Roadmaster wagon, or a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham to save on gas...They tow 7,000 lbs if equipped right, so might be worth it....Sometimes you gotta think outside the box, right? Hmmm a supercharged v-8 throwing up better numbers than just about anything out there, I dont buy it. Do you live at the top of a mountain and only check it at the bottom?

Ehhhh....ain't here to convince anyone, take it at you see it. All I know is its my wallet paying for it, and I'll take every mile that I can get for each gallon that I pay for ;\)

2005 Chevy Silverado Ext Cab

4X4 Z71

5.3 V8

Automatic

4:10 Gears

I'll get 17-18 driving 60-65 and
I'll get 16 driving 70

I average about 16.5 every fill up.

Pulling a boat I'll get around 13-15 going 60.

I found that 60 mph is the magic number for optimal fuel mileage for my truck.

12mpg pulling 4 horse trailer loaded

My mpg never changes in the Hummer, but it is just used for towing now. It pulls so well I have to remind myself I am
pulling something.
