Hey guys-
My dad, brother, and I are fairly new to bay fishing. We love fishing the PINS Surf from the shore and I love bass fishing. We bought a 22' Century(pics on my site in signature) and are ready to do some bay fishing. We have seen where guys are sitting on flats and sight casting to tailing reds and we would love to do this some time. I know the basics of what to throw and such, but I am unsure of how to find fish and stay with them through tides and such. We would love to catch reds, but if the trout are biting better that would work too. We are headed down the 21st to the Laguna madre area, but do not have a location locked in yet so suggestions are welcome. I am happy to be bombarded with info so if there is anything you think I should know just throw it out there. Thanks guys.

where are you planning on launching from? are you going into the the north or the south end of LM? i know some areas in Lower Laguna Madre but your boat will need to be able to get up in pretty shallow water.

I am familiar with the LLM but not the north end. Please advise. Just FYI..you will be limited to where you can go with your boat on the south end of the Madre but there are still some good locations obtainable.

We are staying at the PINS Campground and are launching into the upper laguna. What is your guys' favorite launch around there? Or do you even launch around there?

If your staying at pins then you might as well launch at bird island basin. buy a good map and stay in the chanel. it is shollow everywhere. you might want to hire a guide if this your first time down there, be careful you can get in a bind pretty quick, but the fishing is great

Thanks for the info dta. Sounds like a plan. Anybody know how we can find some fish, or will they be in the channel everywhere? Are crankbaits, like the mann's baby 1-minus, good search baits?

Ok - Guys as this is my first post, go easy. I was born in CC and my dad used to have a cabin down a ways in the Mother Lagoon, I cant remember much from those trips, however I will give you what I know from a couple of trips since then. Get a good Tops map of that area, locate Bird Island Basin, it is on the backside of PINS(Padre Island National Seashore) there are no marina facilities there, just the ramp and a short pier,so if you need bait or supplies get it before then, follow the markers out past the shoreline once out in the ICW, you can pick from quite few spots to try, Emmords Hole is one i can remember, or you can go further south and try drifting the King Ranch Shoreline, look for the potholes which will be lighter spots of sandy bottom and cast into those, weedless gold spoons work well, or try live shrimp suspended under a popping cork. try soft artificials as your search baits, Good Luck and if you get down south far enough and see an ol broken down cabin, wave hello for me...

Thanks for the help Willie. We got a map a few days ago and have located Bird Island Basin. We thought we would launch there or down by Clem's marina(our favorite bait shop). If we see any old cabins we will yell for you. \:\)
