The boat that we charter is the Pacific Voyager on sr. tuna trips. The five dayers are on the Pacific Star. The Pacific Queen like the Pacific Voyager is typically a 1-3 day boat. The reason is the type of coast guard license that the boat has restricts them going out no further than a certain range....I believe that it is about 150 miles.

The Pacific Voyager is a great boat, I really like the Capt. (Mark) he is really intense which makes for some great trips. In fact I will be on the Pacific Voyager for a two day charter at the beginning of July.

I'll be on the American Angler in August....You guys need any info let me know. I worked the boats for eight years in my youth...Still go on a 3 and 5 day a year.
The last 3 years have been tough with the Albe's.

Just remember the the Pacific Queen is a skinny boat compared to the others. I road that boat a lot when Sammy and Brain ran it.

One question about the SD long range boats. Do they provide a place to clean your catch on return or do you have to take catch to a processor?

That really depends on the trip you go on. The 1 to 2 day trips will provide fish cleaning on the boat by the crew for small fee ($1 to $5 per fish depending on size). As for the long range boats (such as the Rooster) the cleaning is done dockside by processors where you can have your catch cleaned and vaccuum packed, trade for canned tuna, smoked, tuna jerky, etc. Processing fees range from straight trade for x number of pounds for x number of cans to $.75 a pound for filleting and $1.00 a pound for smoking or jerky. Some elect to take thier catch home whole and do it themselves...

Just got off the Endeavor this morning on a 1.5 day trip out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego.

Albies were slow!

19 passengers with 1 albacore average. Two yft were also caught with a lot of bonito in the mix as well.

I hope it picks up. Most of the albacore were trolled caught. 15-20# average size.

Water was rough, fishing was tough with lots of wind. All the kelp paddies were not holding fish.

I bet those Albies will pop within the next week. Several boats are picking at them now and numbers are coming up. Ronz is heading out next week on a good boat. Hopefully they will be WFO by then. Any day....

For those that want to clean thier own fish is there a place at the landing to do it or do you have to take them elsewhere. I would want to clean my own fish and would not want to have to bring them back to Texas whole.

There isn't a place at the landing that you can clean your fish. There are services which can do it for a small fee per pound. They will vacuum pack and freeze your catch. Also Anthony's will trade whole Tuna for can.

Phantom, you're best off having your catch cleaned, packed & shipped by Anthony's - I'd recommend having them ship on Southwest airlines cargo, as Southwest employees understand the concept of 'frozen'. I've used them in the past & it was easier than trying to get the fish checked as baggage on AA.

I guess that sorta leaves me out. I just can't justify having someone else clean my fish. I wouldn't be flying, I would drive from Abilene. I may try the SD boats sometime, but for now I think I will stay off the Tex/La coast. Thanks for the info.

Well I got back from a two day on the Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Landing. We left the dock on Sunday 07/05 at approx. 10:30pm and got back at 9:00pm on Tues. 07/08. I've been spoiled on my last several albacore trips with WFO action. This trip was more typical albacore fishing. We had 19 anglers and ended up with 110 albacore (15 to 32 pounds), 1 bluefin (35 pounds) and 1 small yellowtail. I put six on the boat and farmed three, DOH!. I had one in the upper teens the rest were good 20 to 25 pounds. All bait fish, no troll fish for me. Seas were calm, weather was overcast, Captain (Mark), crew (Todd, Greg, Kyle)and the chef (Mr. Jeff) (yes chef and not a cook) were great. I have fished with them before and I was reminded once gain that they are the best I have had the pleasure of fishing with on a 2 day boat. I will try and put together a more detailed report and post a couple pics as well.

I'll be leaving on my trip to San Diego to go on my 5 day fishing trip on the American Angler. Right now there are Albecore, Yellowfin and some Bluefin on the outside. Hopefully I get a wack at the tuna and then head to Guadalupe, Cedros, and San Benito Islands for some quality Yellowtail fishing...

Long Range out of San Diego is terrific! I would recommend the American Angler for a 5 day or longer trip. Sam & brian, owner captains, know how to fish and take care of their customers. We just got in and are in the process of cleaning equipment.

26 anglers went offshore skippered by John Grabowski, to San Pablo Canyon, and to Guadalupe Island for a total of 681 fish kept. Yellow Fin up to 98 pounds, Yellowtail up to 40 pounds and several smaller Dorado and one nice Wahoo. We released a bunch of skipjack and smaller Yellow Fin and Yellowtail.

Was a very rough 22 hour ride back to San Diego yesterday and last night with not much sleep at all.

More details and pics to come in a couple days after some much needed rest.

Capt. Grabowski labeled the trip as Phenominal for this time of year and it is the best trip of the year for all San Diego landings thus far. Simply amazing!!!
