I'm taking my girls, ages 7 and 9,on their first canoe trip next weekend. I was thinking of paddling Denton Creek between 377 and Marshall Creek park. We are going to try and hit some sand bass at the same time.Has anyone done that trip and how long should it take? Thanks for the info!

Never done the trip but highly recommend you focus your lure selection with "weedless" in mind if you are using artificials.
I caught some nice sandbass in a creek yesterday and was throwing a Roadrunner - single hook that faces upwards. Would stay away from anything with a treble hook - still had some snags both above and below water but did not loose any lures since I could manuever my yak to retrieve them. Leadheads with curly tail grubs are cheap and effective too.

Good luck,

FFK

With the kids you might want to try Pilot Knoll park on the south west side of lewisville, it is at the mouth of Hickory creek and might be a little safer of a paddle for you and the fishing is pretty good. Good luck and keep those kids fishing.

Loc: fishin Texas... are you?
Just a reminder... with all the recent canoe/kayak incidents PFD's are very very important.

Pilot Knoll is closer for us and might be better for our first canoe trip. Thanks for the tip!
