How is it? Any shark? Reds moving up at all? Specs? What baits should I bring? I only go salt water fishing maybe twice a year so please help this bass fisherman out.

If I were land locked and going to be down there, I would be hitting the jetties. If you know what a lemon rig is, use it with live shrimp. If not, tie a 3 way swivel on....tie about 3ft leader and hook off one empty eye....tie another 3 ft leader on the other empty eye....tie one of those artificial lemon juice bottles on to the end of this leader. Be sure to dump out all of the lemon juice, normally I add a little water in the lemon bottle to add a touch of weight.

If you don't want to use this rig, just use a typical popping cork with as much leader as you are comfortable with.

Another rig you might want to use is the fish finder rig, basically a carolina rig except you use an egg weight. With this rig, find the freshest Menhaden you can at the local bait shops. Port A outfitters normally has the freshest. Look at the bait to make sure it is still shiny. I normally cut them in half and use them.

Those rigs should allow you to catch Reds (fish finder rig), Trout, Sheepshead, Black Drum, and Mangrove Snapper.

Talked to a friend of mine in Corpus last night.Said the jetties have been good on days that the wind is not howling.Take Ross's advise on the lemon rig if you fish the rocks. It gets the bait deeper and helps with getting snagged in the rocks. Will be down there this weekend and then the week of the 14th - 21st. I guess an Aggie can hook up with a Baylor guy if you want.

The pier is a great place to catch sharks if you really know what you are doing fish big mullet from your cast net in the surf and chunk that out on a heavy dutty rod as far as you can and sit back drink a beer and wait. You can buy pre rigged shark stuff at Port A outfitters. I would be a little more help if I was there your other bet is to go out with Deepsea headquarters they are catching limits of sharks and kingfish on their offshore trips and they are a blast.

Heading out in about an hour for a weekend with my boys. Will probably stay on the Jetties since I am hauling the travel trailer this weekend and not taking the Boat till next weekend.
Plan on letting the boys catch Sheepshead while I put the long rods out. Will post a report Monday.

Fished the north Jetty Saturday.Water looked like chocalate milk that morning but cleared as the day went on.Boys managed a few sheepshead on Ghost Shrimp and then when the water cleared up we caught 6 trout all between 18"-20".
Sunday the wind and surf kicked up so we decided to try Roberts Point.Got there at 7:30 and the Winter Texans were already out . Sat next to a couple from Wisconsin that were tearin' up Sheepshead. Got the boys baited up and my fishing was over. For the next 30 minutes all I did was net fish and rebait.
They had their limit in less than an hour and we got where we threw back anything under 16". Biggest one went 22.5".
Sure hate cleaning them things but the end result was great.
Smiles on the kid's faces.
Will head back down Saturday for the week with rest of the family.
Se ya on the Water

Roberts point is the one to the left of the ferry.Take the first left after you come off the ferry.Follow the road till it makes a hard left and park right in there, And walk down to the rocks. It is normally best off the points.I'll probably try that sunday morning.
