I've done it out of a boat. Too many snakes for a tube on that lake. 'Course a day like today they probably won't bother you.

I tube Raybob all the time. If you're afraid of snakes, don't go fishing. I hardly can remember even seeing a snake out there in 20 years.

Randy,

I don't crappie fish, but I have some good put-in spots up around Indian, if you are interested.

Right on Fishbrain.. Your little spot near indian creek is a real good crappie spawning area, if you can get across to the west side of that cove. I went bass fishing there after you told me about it, and wound up catching 40+ BIG crappie near the bank on the west side of that arm of the lake. I also saw a couple of big deer out there right by where you have to park. Maybe I'll see you out there this year.. I'll be the fat guy cussing about not having a kayak cart as I drag my yak to the water \:\)

Randy,
I meant to mention that back in the good ol days when ray roberts was filling up, they only allowed non motorized boats or tubes out there. I took the tube out near lone oak road the summer before the lake "officially" opened and paddled out to the deeper timber. I did a real quick 180 when I realized that literally every damn tree out there was filled with snakes. The only thing I could figure was the lake filled up so fast and displaced them and they hadn't yet made it back to bank, but there were honest to God thousands of snakes. I didn't really hang around long enough to find out if they were poisonous or not, but I bet a few were. That said, we used to catch tons of bass there, sometimes over 100 per person per day. Most were small, but you'd get the occasional 3-4 lber. That was almost 20 years ago though.. Dang I am getting old.

I heard the same thing about Richland Chambers. When they flooded that lake, it was snakeville. We fished the upper end of the Elm Fork on Roberts last spring and didn't see a snake.

Fishbrain,
Can you tell me how to get to Indian from Fort Worth....interested in doing some crappie fishing from my tube. Any inputs would be appreciated...I realize you don't fish for crappie, but betcha you've accidently caught one, or seen some caught in the area over 20yrs. \:\)
thanks in advance,
HubCap

I was just there last weekend. Even with the wind blowing at gale force I managed a few in the little cove just up from where you put in. The water was in pretty good shape too considering the recent rain and gale force wind.

Amazing how Indian stays clearer than most of the rest of the lake, especially in the north end.

Ya, I was surprised too. All the other water I looked at was chocolate milk. I turned a few fish up there and missed a really nice one. Without the wind I think it would have been much better. I probably could have caught a lot of crappie too if I had wanted too.

I have spent hundreds of hours on RR in the last fifteen years most of that on Indian Creek and have seen one snake in all that time.
