Man that standing for 8+ hours is starting to take its toll. Just a tightness in lower back. Then I Can't really fish effectively sitting like Bill Dance. So a stand like alot of others do. I'm open to any ideas tips or trick. Having wife rub lower back while I fish probably a no go.

Have you tried using a butt seat that you can raise/lean on instead of sitting. I've been raising the seat so that when I lean on it, it is in the small of my back. Although, the girlfriend ideas sounds good.

Check an office supply place for one of those anti-fatigue mats that they put in for cashiers that stand around all day and cut it to fit the front deck where you stand. That is what many of the boat manufacturers are putting under the carpet on the front deck on the new boats. Take a pain reliever before you get on the water, and get a power pedestal with a leaning seat to lean back against to take some strain off. Just some ideas.

Cabela's has a back brace. It is listed with the Gore-Tex rainwear. Their Guide Series. They give it away with a set. Try liquid gel caps ibuprophen.

What are you talking about Kelly ?? Your a perfect example. I've seen you before on those 20 minute abs commercials.
I think Steve pretty much hit it on the head with the addition to crunches as part of your daily regimen.

I have two herniated discs and the only thing that has helped besides the epidural steroid shots was meloxocam, Good stuff and its not addictive.

The only real info I have for you is get really good shock absorbing shoes. Like jogging shoes. I am sure that working out the abs would help a bunch. But prolly not many of us fixin to get started on that.

Lose weight if your overweight.
Work out and get in shape.
Install a flat foot
Use a butt seat to lean against.

Recessed trolling motor control. This may sound dumb but a have a pair of running shoes that I only wear fishing. They have lots of cushion and I don't wear them everyday so they aren't broken down. It has made a difference for me.

How about exercising the stomach muscles? It's the only real solution to lower back pain. The stronger the abs are the better the posture. And no, I'm not a good example! This is the key 100 crunches a day keep back pain away

I have the same trouble and have for years. What I find works well for me is:
1. stay away from coffee and caffeine while fishing...it tightens your muscles believe it or not.
2. Sit down and stretch by placing your head between your knees once in a while...like when retying or changing lures.
3. Do some stretching like toe touches before you even get in the boat to loosen up those muscles a bit.
I've got pretty good abs for my age and always have, but I have that low back ache when I stand like you do.

I've got about 4-5 levels of DDD - and really need fusions at multiple levels as well. I struggle w/back pain and will until I get cut on. Two things that have helped me have been going through about 10 minutes of stretching my back muscles out prior to starting the day, and secondly, wearing good shoes. You really can't go wrong w/anything made by New Balance...
