To all,

I am thinking about buying an inflatable pontoon or a kayak. But, for the life of me, I cannot seem to decide between the two. One think to consider...Whatever my choice is, I will be stapping it to the top of my honda civic sedan with yakima rack.

thanks

Before I got my WS Ride I had an inflatable pontoon. It was good in protected areas, but was very difficult in any kind of wind. The profile is just too high in the wind.

I have a pontoon and there are alot of things i like about it>

#1. Easy to store
#2. Great for small lakes like in the Grasslands, creeks, and coves.
#3. Don't have to worry about getting as wet as in a yak
#4. More storage space
#5. Easy to accessorize
#6. will not tip like yaks
#7. You set higher than in a yak or tube and is easier to cast from.

Now the cons

#1. Hard to paddle; the drag and weight of the thing makes it hard to get anywhere fast.
2#. The wind if it is realy bad does play a problem, but if you stick to coves, creeks, and small lakes its ok.
3#. Easy to transport, mine fits perfect on the back of my truck with straps. They do make cargo baskets for it to attach to roof racks.
4W. Most folks grimess when you say pontoon because they have air bladders and could puncture but they are usually covered in the pvc material to help against this.

Since i have never owned or paddled a yak i do not know their pros and cons other than they are more expensive.

Loc: fishin Texas... are you?
I have two kayaks and these are the things I like about them:

#1. Easy to store
#2. Great for small lakes like in the Grasslands, creeks, and coves.
#3. Don't have to worry about getting wet
#4. More storage space
#5. Easy to accessorize
#6. Fishing yaks don't tip easily (I'm 270 and clumsy & I don't tip)
#7. Your protected from snakes and other water creatures
#8. Easy to paddle
#9. Less wind resistance
#10.Much easier to throw on any lake or pond (I have a little cart for mine)
And the most important #11 if you bump something it doesn't let the air out.

I had a pontoon and it was okay. When I paddled up to a stick up and a big ole snake swam toward me (and my legs and feet are exposed) I put the pontoon in the shed. It was also hard to control it and fish in any wind.

If you can tell I love my yaks. I have a 9.5 and a 14.2 foot and have really enjoyed both.

Having said all that I recommend going to a vendor that sells both and trying a variety of each so you can judge for yourself.

Was debating the same thing. But got me a kayak and am very happy with it. Just make sure you have a comfortable life jacket as a regular one puts a kink in the back.
