First of all no--its not open unless you have a TXU badge. Secondly, since TPWD has seemingly washed there hand of this lake and it is now a private lake---are their size and limit regulations still in effect and if so why?(I keep kickin this dead horse but it wont lay down.)

I had fished quite alot at squaw creek before it closed and yes a visitor could get very close to the intake pumps for the plant.

I love that lake, the fishing is awesome,
but i do believe that it is better to try and maintain a tighter security perimeter than before 9-11.

I lived on property boarding the plants many acres and i can tell you that it would be tough keeping every aspect of that plant protected.

the biggest buck i have ever seen was across the fence just hanging with two does. a neighbor finally got him and it was a non typical buck, 21 points with two excellent drop tynes and field dressed at 205lbs.

my father had one day that he still talks about where the black bass hit so hard they curled the brand new line on his reel by the end of that day.

The wife and i took the kids fishing with guide Mr Wiskers before the lake closed and caught the most catfish that we have ever caught and had a blast learning from him.

I took scuba lessons on squaw creek lake back in the 80s and it evolved into deep sea diving. terrific memories.

none of the fun out there on squaw creek out ways protecting that plant. if the lake was reopened to boats it creates a nightmare for security.

bank fishing would be the best hope for the public to ask for.

My opinion of the lake closing is that they want it closed....period. All the things done there are to that point. I don't think it has anything to do with security from people coming from the park. A truck loaded with explosives or biologicals could more easily do damage by going through the front gate.

However, I have emailed the TPWD and Ken Kurzawski (biologist with TPWD)sent me some information that I will pass on. It looks as though its up to the owners.
1. The NRC asked the owners of all Nuclear power plants to review their security after 9/11. In 2002 they asked that all steps taken to become permanent and can only be changed after being requested by the power plant and concured by the NRC. The owners have said they have no plans to ask to have the lake opened again.
2. The fees charged at the gate paid approx 25 percent of the operation of the park. That still left the management of the lake to the power company.
3. The owners do allow security cleared groups to fish the lake. They have offered this not only to their people but to public groups, however I doubt that the trouble involved with getting security would be worth the trouble to fish off the bank in the park. Requests should be made through community relations at the plant.
4. The property belongs to the owners of the power plant but the water belongs to the Texas Water Rights Commision and the aquatic life belongs to the TPWD.
5. The owners have offered for the state to remove the fish but the state says its cost prohibitive to do so.
6. There was never a written agreement between the owners and the state on the management of the lake or that it have public access.

In short whether or not its a valid security risk its up to the owners of the plant to ask that the lake be reopened. The public never paid for a reasonable cost so the owners provided most of the money to keep the lake open so I don't blame them.

I have a copy of the minutes from a meeting between the power plant and the Parks and Wildlife before the lake was built. I also have a couple of others that were sent to me by Ken Kurzawski. There are some parts in the stuff that I could argue the common sense or the security issue but thats all that I could do. They have a legitimate right to keep it closed so I think only they can initiate its opening.

Got to hit them in the old pocketbook. Start getting fishermen to switch electric companies. Then once you get several thousand tell TXU that we will all switch back to TXU if they open the lake. All they understand is the almighty dollar. Hit them and hit them hard. This they will understand and they will have a way to come out looking like the good guy for once.

Tired of txu screwing you on your electric bill? Tired of txu not letting you fish squaw creek? check out my website
bigsteveselectric.igniteinc.biz

plus the rates are a lot cheaper than txu.

Everybody knew shortly after 9/11 that TXU was just determined to close the lake. And, shortly after I realized that, I switched my electric to National Power. TXU was always too expensive. Funny how they've dropped their rate and promised rebates and incentives to those who will come back. I wrote them a notice of cancelation when I switched and listed the rate and the closing of the lake as the primary reasons. You can do the same. But I will never patronize TXU directly again.

I'm with you. TXU is the biggest damn ripoff. I also changed to National Power and refuse to ever do business with TXU again.

This post doesn't seem to be about opening squaw creek anymore but more like the topic of letting people know that TXU employees are able to get in and fish the lake. Now like a personal posting area for those people.

At what time does this become a moot point and a meaningless topic?

I have moved on to better things than to continue to worry about one little lake that you had to be at many hours before it opened to get in line so you could get in the gate. Deal with a ramp that really wasn't that great and could be down right dangerous when the temps were below freezing.

Yea we all know that it was our money that stocked the lake many many years ago. Even though that brood of fish have long since died off and their offspring still flourish, what is all of this going to prove?

Beating a dead horse was out the window months if not years ago. I don't think the skeleton of this horse can take much more. What ever happened to leaving things alone that have died and be in peace?

Sorry guys, just getting tired of this topic lingering around. I probably shouldn't even read but it is sometimes comical to see how people still react to this subject. Including myself.

Let it go.......

Why do you still post on it then. Your last statement in this post makes one believe that you are tired of it also. Is that the best you can come back with?

I mearly made a post in to which I included myself. If all you can do is reply stating not to post on it, what are you doing to help it besides beating the dead horse?
